Night clubs do this sort of thing ALL the time. It is simple economics.
The more single women that show up, the more single men show up (about 3:1). Men typically spend more at Night Clubs than women (almost 2:1).
Making it less expensive for women (they presume are single, and if they are not, chances are they are bringing along a significant other who is spending a lot on her) is a way to make more money overall.
It's not fair to men, to be sure.
Are you looking for feminists to deny the economic reality and tell the night clubs to charge everyone equally??
He's probably peeved because a bouncer at one of these same nightclubs with a door policy told him to forget it tonight: clubs with a door policy can be rather picky about the single men they let in...
