Seriously, where have the evangelicals buried decency and morality?

We HAD to bury it in '92 when the God-less heathens killed it so cruelly.

The God-less heathens? Are you going to drag that old fish across the road again, Michael? What happened in '92 that wounded you so?

Or was that the year the Evangelicals joined hands with the Right and went a courting teen age girls down in Alabama?

[the] accusations of alleged sexual misconduct...have come to light 38 years later, around one month before from the election.

That timing "stinks to high heaven" and "reeks of politics," according to Moore supporters.

Bold mine.

I think it's worthwhile at this point in the endeavor to ask ourselves about timing.

Yes, it absolutely could be that some are looking at the timing close to the election. However, we should also look at what other timing should be considered.

This whole thread is supposed to be about why we believe people when entertainers are involved as opposed to politicians. What else is happening right now? Could it be that Weinstein's, Spacey's, and other victims are being believed now rather than any other point? Does this give a person a sense of security because they are seeing other people being believed and they might take the chance of being believed?

that's a possibility as well...

and given that, the overall point being as I see it is, none of us here will know the truth and so it behooves everyone from a wisdom perspective, to act accordingly. to wit---the comrades need to stop acting like an accusation is a fait accompli.

If Trump survives the four years he will be noted in History as the president who destroyed this great nation...

PAST hysterical howler prophesies about this president:

Turns out Trump didn’t ruin America’s economy

Foreign tourism to New York City is set to rise 3.6 percent this year — defying yet another of the many doomsday predictions about Donald Trump’s presidency.

Back in February, the city tourism agency said Trump’s “travel ban and related rhetoric” would mean a drop of 300,000 visitors this year. But the NYC & Co. prophecy proved false.

Of course, other predictions were more dire — particularly those about the stock market.

Finance expert Steve Rattner foresaw “a market crash of historic proportions” under a President Trump. Moody’s warned of a “weaker” economy. Many said 2 percent GDP growth was the best that could be hoped for.

Other doomsayers included Mark Cuban, CNBC’s Andrew Ross Sorkin and firms such as Bridgewater Associates and Macroeconomic Advisers. (A less-dishonorable mention goes to Nobel-winning economist Paul Krugman, who at least walked back his doomsaying about “a global recession, with no end in sight,” soon after election night.)

In fact, the Dow has climbed more than 25 percent since Hillary Clinton conceded. And the first two full quarters of Trump’s term both saw growth of 3 percent or more. Oops.

More recently, Trump’s cutbacks of money to help folks sign up for ObamaCare brought warnings that enrollment would surely plummet. Hah! Over the first few days of open enrollment this year, a record number of people signed up, The Hill reported Tuesday.

The first day alone saw 200,000 sign-ups, twice last year’s number, and more than 1 million visited healthcare.gov, versus 750,000 in 2016.

As for all the noise about fascism and tyranny: Trump has scrupulously obeyed the law, even as judges came up with unprecedented legal theories to strike down his “travel ban” executive orders.

None of this guarantees that the markets won’t turn south eventually, or that ObamaCare won’t run into the rocks. But it does tell you that talk of Trump-fueled armageddon is partisan hysteria, unhinged from reality.

Washington's loss is New York's gain, then.
Are tourist figures for Florida falling with the spacehopper spending more time in Mar A Lago than at the Whitehouse as well?

So, once again the shallow child has no opinion of his own then? Meh!

The American economy rises on the tail of Obama's steady leadership and the know-nothing man-child crows and boasts of one quarter growth above 3%. Such nonsense.

How will the R's cover the $1.3T deficit created by the wealth shift to the already filthy rich? By chopping your grandma's welfare benefits is how. Poor old slag. How you gonna explain that to her? Get her a job driving for Uber?

And let us not be surprised by the tourism increase to New York City ~ that wonderful, socialist town, where the Bronx is up and the Battery's down. Everybody want's to see Broadway, the Great White Way, where the lights are always welcoming. 24/7.

Obamacare enrollment has risen despite Trump's declared intention to starve the program financially . .a middle finger directly into the orange face of his feeble threat.

Fascism? Das Trumpster himself was disappointed at how limited his powers are in a rule of law government. Poor baby. The worst he could do was fail to refill slots. Bad enough but easy to overcome in the next Dem Administration.

What will happen to the Dow when the anticipated highway robbery fails? You could figure that one if you had half a functioning brain.

The Republican's can't govern without their burglars' kits and masks, can they? No, it seems they cannot.

And as an aside I ask again what has happened to morality and Christian values these last forty years that the charismatic groaners have usurped God's Church? Where have they gone to? The commandments of Jesus to feed the poor and welcome the stranger in from the cold night? The politicized church is an abomination.

Please do try to reply with some originality.

Jimmy Carter took a stab at that one (before Reagan handed the republican party over to the "christians" in the religious right, of course), but there's been nobody else since.

when they accuse entertainers of sexual misconduct (Harvey Weinstein, Bill Cosby, Kevin Spacey, Louis C.K.)

BUT we strain and rail against the VICTIMS when politicians are accused (Roy Moore, Donald Trump)? She's a lyin' bitch. Why'd she wait so long? etc.

Why do we so knowingly accept accusations against entertainers (uh huh, what I thought) but we flat out don’t believe the accusations against our politicians?

Why do we accept one of the accused groups automatically as scum but the other as innocent victims of lying, weaseling women?

Is there a moral difference between political paedophilia and show biz paedophilia?

What do you think?

I do not think there is this difference, that politicians are more readily believed, why on earth should they be??
It is always hard to know what to make of these accusations. They can come in spades because the lid is off a previously tabooed problem, or they can be politically motivated.

i believe you are describing dennis Hastert.

the notion of having to "put up or shut up and face some sort of penalty" is an interesting one. I think to some extent it already occurs with false rape charges, and every once in awhile you hear about it in other areas too, but I wonder to what extent defamation of character laws might already account for this?

It does happen, but the charges the false accuser face are (usually) Perjury (generally one year) or filing a false police report (generally, even less, all the way down to a fine). If the punishment was a bit more equal, I think you'd see less false accusations.

Peace,

Michael

So how do you find out if it is a false accusation? If the accused is acquitted?

Lucylastic -> RE: WHY DO WE READILY BELIEVE THE WOMEN (VICTIMS)? (11/13/2017 2:58:03 PM)

FR.
we would see far less accusations if people didnt molest other people,
Oh and pssst, this hasnt been a police matter. NO police, no arrest.

False accusations help the molesters, in fact, because every one makes genuine complaints just that extra teensy bit less credible.

Yeah, well, after a pussy-grabbing, 13-yr.-old-groping, own-daughter-lusting sicko gets elected president, some people might feel encouraged. They just want another guy on their side. So there's that about how the president got elected.

What a shock THAT is.

Preachers who can only understand English phonetically sometimes confuse (as being read to them) IOUs from donors as meaning to the preacher "I own ewes." You know, the whole "flock" thing.

New Accuser comes out.

And from a local woman in Gadsden at the time, an observation that sounds similar to what the latest accuser describes:

Another former waitress, Victoria Beverstock, told AL.com today that she was 20 years old and working at The Poor House restaurant in 1992 when Moore came in a few times a week to eat and do paperwork.

She said he made her and the other waitresses uncomfortable by staring at them and flirting.

"He watched us girls quite openly," said Beverstock. "His eyes crawled over our shirts and our backsides. He was so open about it that I would try and handle his order as quickly as possible.

"When you didn't smile and flirt back with him, give him an opening, he became rude and demanding," she said.[\i]

https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/locals-were-troubled-by-roy-moores-interactions-with-teen-girls-at-the-gadsden-mall

<snip>
This past weekend, I spoke or messaged with more than a dozen people—including a major political figure in the state—who told me that they had heard, over the years, that Moore had been banned from the mall because he repeatedly badgered teen-age girls.

Some say that they heard this at the time, others in the years since. These people include five members of the local legal community, two cops who worked in the town, several people who hung out at the mall in the early eighties, and a number of former mall employees. (A request for comment from the Moore campaign was not answered.)

Several of them asked that I leave their names out of this piece. The stories that they say they’ve heard for years have been swirling online in the days since the Post published its report. “Sources tell me Moore was actually banned from the Gadsden Mall and the YMCA for his inappropriate behavior of soliciting sex from young girls,” the independent Alabama journalist Glynn Wilson wrote on his Web site on Sunday.
(Wilson declined to divulge his sources.)

Teresa Jones, a deputy district attorney for Etowah County in the early eighties, told CNN last week that “it was common knowledge that Roy dated high-school girls.” Jones told me that she couldn’t confirm the alleged mall banning, but said, “It’s a rumor I’ve heard for years.”

Back to the topic.

It seems that the loudest voices asking for Moore to remove himself from the race (in spite of what the RW howlers in here are spouting) are..................Republican
