I don't have to ask, I know exactly why I am not surprised. Almost every office of almost every govt. in Africa...is corrupt as hell. Mugabe was (or became) your all too typical African leader...butchering, murderous, (religious) corrupt fascists.

This is just another example of the people, the masses having no control at all in politics and office holders, with their government's, using their monopoly on violence.

And there you have it. Fascist thieves are running the continent and running [it] into the ground and despite Africa being the richest continent on earth.

West wing: "Mr. pres., there's been a military coup in Zimbabwe." "Where's is that ?" "I've heard that name before."

Do we buy any oil from them ? Hey, they may need a new great, billion$, opulent, hotel/resort/casino ? Call the generals and see what their interest level is and oh...interest rates too.

No doubt Trump's illegal incursions into Niger are responsible for this African Spring.

I have heard that Bob was a bit of a tunc. It may have played a part. Like NK and other dictatorships you have to keep your military very very very happy to support you, because they will turn on you in an instant, and he may have forgot someones birthday.

Man you haven't been paying attention to the infinite wisdom of this board, ALL of our problems, maybe the world's problems too...is Obama's fault. It all may have been just reinforced with the tragedy in Niger.

But unfortunately and because it happened during a repub admin., we'll never see what 11 or 12 committee hearings on it.

Biggish news?
(I've linked to the Washington Post so you all know the story's on the level, rather than fake news...)

IMO, biggish news, for now. The situation will have to play out to determine if it's a yuge development, or just same old same old stuff. If Mugabe is, indeed, deposed and another dictator is set in place, it could be simply the same old same old stuff (it could lead to a 'kinder and gentler' dictator, which would be better than Mugabe). If legit democratic elections occur in 2018, it could be a yuge development.

We shall have to wait and see, true enough.
According to the updates on the Beeb (fake news!), his wife has already fled the country, so at least they're spared her taking over.

Topics like these don't really carry the same partisan charge so you can be sure that everyone would accept the article no matter the source.

If it was about whether or not Hillary supported Mugabe and brought her own axe while he was carrying out mass-executions, it would probably go differently.

There seems to be stuff on the telegraph website already, but I think the Mail gets the last word around here.

Maybe she went to Switzerland to cash out their stash. Might be time to go retire in Saudi...play some golf like Idi did until he died from syphilis. Now there's a tell.

Oh come on now, don't ruin it for us. You just know that Hills had something to do with good ole Bob jailing people, staying in power by shear ruthlessness as exemplified if true and I don't doubt it, that he wanted wife to continue their despotism.

Laying low in Nairobi allegedly (FAKE NEWS!), but I'm sure you can catch a flight to Switzerland from there...

Guys, seriously... So many of us bitch about how so many rightwingers constantly bring Hillary or Obama into everything. Can you not do it for them?

Justin Bieber?!?!? Oh, wait, he was "the Beebs" wasn't he?

I though the article stated they were both in custody.

So, it goes?:
    1. BBC
    2. Telegraph
    3. Daily Mail

As far as reliability goes, where do The Times, The Guardian, and Financial Times fit in?

The most common poster for that, "B_____" hasn't chimed in to bring up Hillary or Obama, so maybe they felt a bit dysphoric at the lack of continuity?

The article does. The television news updates are claiming that she's fled the country, though.
(And the Beeb is the BBC: you know, those evil state funded socialist propagandists? Nothing to do with irritating Canadians or negroes who are showers not growers.)

The Times and The Grauniad are sort of opposite numbers, both fairly decent papers with an obvious ideological slant. The FT has better fact checking than either, but is undervalued as a news source because it concentrates on monetary stories and has a somewhat conservative (as in fiscally conservative) bias.

Well said, WS!

Anyway, what's the Islamic involvement in this Zimbabwe crisis - anyone know?
