I'm not one (usually) who looks to celebrate a death, but I'm not going to miss this guy, one bit.

I hope he "got himself right" before he died, but I'm also not holding out hope that's possible.

good riddance ... bad rubbish ... You know.

He is a perfect example of why all states should have the death penalty in some cases.

They didn't execute Tex Watson or Susan Atkins for the Tate/Labianca murders, so the death penalty for a ringleader who made a point of not taking part in the murders would seem a bit off.

They all should have been executed.

Good riddance.
Now put him in a trash bag and send him to the landfill with the rest of the garbage.

He is a perfect example of why all states should ban the death penalty.

His life sentence was FAR harsher a penalty than immediate death. (He was actually sentenced to 9 consecutive life sentences)

Same for Susan Atkins.

Since the death penalty has come up ...

In this case, I'm a bit torn. Clearly, Manson was smart enough to persuade/manipulate people into doing some heinous things without getting his hands dirty.

It's also pretty clear that unless he was one of the best actors on the planet, he was nutty as a fruit cake.

His crimes would seem to call for the death penalty, but if we believe he is mentally ill, how do we cross that particular line?

I do believe that nearly a half a century behind bars with no hope for release is pretty cruel punishment (I've mad that general argument here, before), but society also has a duty to defend itself from beings of his ilk.

Manson got the death penalty but before he could be executed that law
was broken by a court ruling so it was changed to life.

He wasn't mentally ill, he was mentally deranged. Like Donald Rumsfeld, for example.

Death penalty or nine non-concurrent life goes the same either way for protecting society. Guys 100 times smarter than that idiot can't escape.

Agreed. Because I don't think his racial ideology was the cause, but rather the outcome of a severely warped mind.
