backwards, there is this:
quote:

This man is about to launch himself in his homemade rocket to prove the Earth is flat

Seeking to prove that a conspiracy of astronauts fabricated the shape of the Earth, a California man intends to launch himself 1,800 feet high on Saturday in a rocket he built from scrap metal.

Assuming the 500-mph, mile-long flight through the Mojave Desert does not kill him, Mike Hughes told the Associated Press, his journey into the atmosflat will mark the first phase of his ambitious flat-Earth space program.

Hughes’s ultimate goal is a subsequent launch that puts him miles above the Earth, where the 61-year-old limousine driver hopes to photograph proof of the disc we all live on.

Of course, there is still the insistence that Nibiru is real even though

1) There is no scientific proof, the effects of such an object's gravity has not been observed in the solar system, even in the Ort cloud.

And of course:
2) It did not hit the earth last Sunday.

Which is not to deny that the people that predicted the end of the word back in 2012 are still trying to recalculate the math to figure out why they missed the date, or the preachers of the Bible code, which has predicted the end of the world six times in the last 10 years, and missed.

But back to the original story, IF this guy has actually done the math correctly and he lives through this, he might eventually get high enough to see the curve of the earth, about 35000 feet.

If not, then they probably will not be able to actually put together enough pieces to fill a shoe box.

I would think sailing around the globe would be all the proof needed to prove the earth is "round".

Silly idea, I know, but there it is.

... Or even standing at a seashore and watching a ship disappear over the horizon with a telescope.

Ah, more from the 'conservative' marketplace of ideas.

At least he's using imperial rather than metric measurements...

FR

Anybody ever tried this: look out to sea, holding a piece of string taut between each hand - then try to line it up with the horizon? I tried it once. To me - the horizon looked curved next to the straight line of the string ....

Here's to the next governor of California. (Yes, he is running.)

As a side note. we haven't heard from thompson in a while.......ya think?

We have, just under a few different names. He's here.

Actually, someone standing on shore could still think (and proclaim) that the ship "fell off the edge"; it just couldn't be seen, when it did it.

The observer could wait for the same ship to return, I suppose.

The only way for a person who doesn't wish to be convinced, to be convinced, is by embarking on the journey, themselves.

Well, contrary to popular myth, Columbus actually did not set off the prove the earth round, a Greek mathematician actually did that a couple of thousand years earlier during the early days of the Library at Alexandria.

It seems he noticed that there was a distinct difference in the shadows of vertical objects at noon in different cities. So after doing some experiments followed by calculations he determined 1) the earth was round and 2) the circumference of the earth.

Of course the board of directors (or whatever they called themselves who ran the library) had to go and prove for themselves before this guy's theory was accepted.

Now, the funniest part of the 'flat earth movement' is that a percentage of the people that support this theory also support the 'hollow earth' theory as well, and how the hell they merge the two is beyond me.

You haven't seen the latest, inside is where [we] are hiding god. You know, the all knowing, all powerful god and we...can hide him. [sm=pushed.gif] My first...to celebrate the occasion.

I meant that he lives in that area and maybe that's what he's been up to.
