ORIGINAL: Greta75 Trump actually mentioned even before he was elected that his solution for the Palestinian/Israel issue is to pick a side. This two side solution has been going on forever and clearly nobody else have been successful in the two state solution. So Trump already said before being elected that he would pick one, and side one, and as usual, he has gone and done what he said he was gonna do. Actually when this news came up, it's like, "Wait a minute! He said IF he was elected he was precisely gonna do this! This is news?" Like picking a side ever really solved shit in international diplomacy, but since you obviously have no fucking clue as to the problems that this little move creates, let me enlighten you. In 1947, the UN adopted Resolution 181, which: 1) Partitioned Palestine between the two factions, the Jews and Palestinians And, due to its unique nature, that being the religious center for three religions set Jerusalem as an open city under no one faction's control, but to be administered by all, with the UN as the over all authority. Now, the UN did this without actually including all interested parties in the discussion, and like the partitioning of the middle east after WW1 and the defeat of the Ottoman empire, followed the same basic principle of fuck em, we will put who we want inside what ever borders we want to draw. Now of course, everyone was thrilled with this, and celebrated by starting a series of wars in which the super powers, ie the US and Soviet Union supplied whoever would toe the line that was desired. So in the first Arab Israeli war, Israel basically took everything that had been set aside for the Palestinians, and refused to give it back, despite everyone in the world telling them to do so. And just kept adding to their territory with each successive war. Now in 1967, during six day war, the Israeli military moved into Jerusalem despite the UN telling them to back off, and in an open act of "FUCK YOU" declared Jerusalem theirs. As to the pick a side theory of making peace work, the US has been doing it since 1947, and we can clearly see the results. Israel does what the hell it wants and gets a basic scolding. Palestinians react with violence, either the US gives Israel the weapons to blow the shit out of them, or the US does it ourselves. The first president to actually do something different with was Jimmy Carter, the one term peanut eating moron that fucked up royally and got the US embassy in Tehran taken and could not even manage to pull off a successful rescue op, because he picked the worst possible time of the year in the region to try it, when massive sand storms were as normal as thunderstorms and tornadoes were in Georgia. So the US has been picking a side since 1947. We sold the Israeli military the jets that were used to bomb the nuclear plant in Iraq, a plant that had both soviet and American technology to build (we helped because Iraq was keeping Iran in check and Saddam was our bitch.) We sold Israel super accurate missiles to use to pinpoint and eliminate Palestinian terrorist bases that were used to fire soviet made rockets into Israel, along with the 'to whom it may concern' artillery that they choose to use instead to kill not only the terrorists but the civilians who happen to be in the target zone. And what has that gotten us? Basically our double standard of punishing Israel with a 'that is not nice, don't do it' and the "blast the Palestinians to hamburger" has made us the target of god knows how many Islamic Terrorist groups, Palestinian nationalist groups who don't give a fuck about the Quran but want their homes back, and any other group in the region the Israeli military has blown the shit out of with weapons we supplied. Israel has defied every UN resolution telling them not to build settlements in the occupied territories, telling them not to evict Palestinians from their homes so they can move in Israelis and build more settlements, and the US has basically did nothing to stop it. We have already been picking sides, and this little bullshit move of Trump's is not going to solve a damn thing, its going to make matters worse. There is a perfectly sound reason why after the original resolution was passed by congress no sane US president has recognized Jerusalem as the capital, its called lets not piss off the people in the middle east more, and of course, the appearance of being supportive of the original 1947 UN resolution. All this is going to do is take us completely out of the peace process that wont work because Israel does what the fuck it wants to when it wants to and fuck the rest of the world if it further destabilizes the region. But all the Trumpateers are going to celebrate this as a good thing, and of course if Americans get killed as a result, its the Muslim's fault. Doesn't make a fucking bit of difference that for the longest time, Islamic extremists were content to target Israel for the bullshit until it became all too fucking obvious that we wont do a damn thing except talk when Israel pulled some fucked up move and either invaded another country or used weapons we supplied to kill a few hundred innocent civilians.
