Well its worth a try...

Trump Jr. cites attorney-client privilege in not answering panel's questions about discussions with his father

Donald Trump Jr. on Wednesday cited attorney-client privilege to avoid telling lawmakers about a conversation he had with his father, President Donald Trump, after news broke this summer that the younger Trump — and top campaign brass — had met with Russia-connected individuals in Trump Tower during the 2016 campaign.

Though neither Trump Jr. nor the president is an attorney, Trump Jr. told the House Intelligence Committee that there was a lawyer in the room during the discussion, according to the committee’s top Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff of California. Schiff said he didn’t think it was a legitimate invocation of attorney-client privilege.

“I don’t believe you can shield communications between individuals merely by having an attorney present,” he said, after the committee’s lengthy interview with Trump Jr. “That’s not the purpose of attorney-client privilege.”

Trump Jr.’s meeting in June 2016 at Trump Tower — and the president’s response after it became public earlier this year through a New York Times story — has become a central focus of investigators probing whether any Trump associates cooperated with Russian efforts to interfere in the presidential election.

Though Trump Jr. initially portrayed the meeting as “short,” “introductory” and focused on the issue of adoption, it was later revealed that there were eight participants — including the senior Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and his campaign chairman, Paul Manafort — and that Trump Jr. agreed to the meeting with a promise that he would receive negative information about Hillary Clinton provided by the Kremlin.

Well, it's been established if a head of a corporation sends out a mass e-mail that he copies to his in-house counsel, ALL THE RECIPIENTS of the e-mail (as long as they're all employees of the corporation) are covered by the privilege.

That might or might not be the case with the government. I'll have to go back and look at some of the Watergate stuff.

We all know or should know that Jr. can get away with this but not at all based on atty./client privilege. He can get away with selectively answering questions just as others have...they didn't think it appropriate or came under executive privilege, [sic] something else that doesn't exist.....

.....can do so because the 'R' committees will never hold another 'R' in any standing...in contempt for not answering. Whereas in every case that I know of, when an Obama official failed to satisfy these same committees, they were in fact...held in contempt.

No, atty./client privilege does not hold water in this case.

Oh, and in Upjohn, the ruling was that the substance of the communication must involve matters that fall within the scope of the corporate employee's official duties. I.e., not everybody.

Committee asks nosy questions.
Witness declines to answer.
Committee cites witness for contempt.
Witness goes to court on contempt charges.
Court decides whether it is criminal or within witness' rights to decline to answer.

Personally, I would think it would be hard NOT to find contempt of Congress with the record of Congress in the last two decades. <snark, snark>

I dont think anyone can argue with that part...but its certainly better than the spectre of trump dictatorship

That's a ridiculous argument. But worth a try. If nothing else, it's a delaying tactic.

The committee member did mention he would be ...challenged on it.
The chick thats been a fixture on news lately that was on the team for watergate, she was chuckling.
But as you said, it is a delaying tactic.

Except 'R's' don't cite 'R's' for contempt...just the 'D's'

I mean didn't the 'R' who was caught flying to S. Amer. to see his mistress...then get elected ?

I love those sacred 'value' voters, they hold their values to be so sacred...whatever they are.

Well hey, at least he wasn't all high and mighty being a staunch opponent of abortion and then try to bribe [his] mistress into...having an abortion.

I mean let's hear it for the 'value' voters of America who seem to 'value' these scumbags and now love a scumbag like Trump.
