This debate is fascinating... It is nice to have another voice on here. Welcome thursdays! First of all, back to the main topic of the thread... I find the claim that "Most people" view the term "Woke" as meaning "decent" to be dubious. Where I find terms to be over used and over politicized (Ron Desantis is a poster child for using woke as a political troll tool), I have observed via gender and race ideology, the left has created "hierarchies of oppression" (Bethany Mandel's definition, even though she may have stolen it from someone else), and has reduced individual merit and worth and turned people into "communities". Call it "Woke", or "spiced salami" for all I care)The word "community" also seems to be hijacked by the left. Example. People are black, brown, white, red, and many combinations. Instead of recognizing a non-white person for who he/she is, he/she has to be identified as a person of color, and therefore oppressed, and therefore more deserving of a prominent position in the name of "diversity". I think that is an insult to all legitimately qualified non-white people for these positions. Instead they get labelled as the "diversity" candidate. Another example: People are homosexual, bisexual, pansexual, heterosexual, or....whatever. They may be transsexual. That does not make them part of an LGBTQIA+XYZDFG community. Peoples are individuals with their own worth and contribution to society, and their own skills. Their gender and race should not play any part of that. One other item. The idea that leadership boards or councils need to (according to both race and gender) exactly represent the population they are leading is pure nonsense. A purely black, heterosexual female CAPABLE Leadership council is perfectly capable of governing a population of gay men. A purely white Christian Anglo-Saxon protestant CAPABLE Leadership council is capable of governing a population of lesbian and trans women. Also... Yes homosexuality and perhaps transexuality, occur in nature. No one should be the victim of discrimination or bullying to be sure. However, the discussion of sexuality in early years of childhood can be damaging IMO and is inappropriate. DRAG shows, (appearing in DRAG) is an art form which can be done with humor, class, and dignity. IMO, it is still not appropriate for children. All of these issues fall into what I consider "Woke" ************************************************************************************************************************************************************************ OK... now down the Reagan rabbit hole It looks like we have a straw man argument. Unfortunately, my very good friend, BoscoX often engages in such tactics. You have a different definition of woke, and you criticize Reagan THEREFORE you are a communist Regulated Capitalism in its many forms has proven to be better for humanity than Communism, so therefore the Communist straw man is blown down and you lose You indicate that Reagan ushered in a massive transfer of wealth from poor to rich - CHECK Reagan era was a boon for wealthiest Americans Rich got richer while poor were stuck in a rut, Federal Reserve Board study says Of course it is well documented that he believed in supply-side trickle down economics. Reagan did preside over a wonderful economic recovery in the US from the Carter years, so I give him that However... He did a lot of damage to society in the US in support of Big Pharma, and his redistribution of wealth from the lower and middle class to the wealthy. Plus a few other horrible irreversible things. I will elaborate and enumerate EACH in a separate thres.
