JVoV -> Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (6/9/2023 12:44:50 PM)

Before the indictment was unsealed, Trump went on his Truth Social to tell everyone, because, of course he did. And GOP candidates for president, elected officials, and voters voiced their support of the former president and current frontrunner for the GOP nomination. Ron DeSantis even said it's weaponization of the Justice Department because Biden is afraid of Trump.

He probably is. We all should be. Trump is an egomaniac that committed crimes against our country. Allegedly. Innocent until proven guilty and all that. Uh huh.

Trump is the first former president to face federal charges. Any president could pardon him, but that is more likely with a Republican. It will probably be a campaign issue for the GOP field, maybe even getting some support from the base. Trump's alleged crimes may become the deciding factor for the 2024 presidential campaign, not just in the GOP primaries, have t the general election as well. What do voters believe?

Or it could be nothing voters on either side care about. We still have a year before the general campaigns even kick off.

I do believe it is a weaponization of the Justice Department. They have been tasked with catching criminals and threats to the country, and they're actually doing it. Damn shame Trump made his crimes so obvious. If you know you're being watched, you have to be smarter. He wasn't, so he got caught.

The judge presiding over the case was appointed by Trump, and he will have deciding authority over which motions will be approved, but really guilty (or not guilty) will be decided by the jury.

Trump has vowed to plead not guilty to these charges.

The "judge" is the same Trump sycophant that presided when the investigation first started. Aileen Cannon. She bent the law backwards for Trump, and was reversed on a[[eal. TWICE

JVoV -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (6/10/2023 9:47:51 AM)

Then she can be reversed on appeal again. I don't know that a "neutral" judge is possible. Every federal judge was appointed by a president.

Oh and Pat Robertson died, so this is like, the BEST PRIDE MONTH EVER!

Obviously, I don't take any joy in someone's death. No matter how vile and hypocritical he was. I didn't do it and I'm not in the will.

That is nonsense. The vast majority of judges are neutral, regardless of who appointed them.

Aileen Cannon is a political hack masquerading as a judge. Like Antonin Scalia (a right wing hack and judicial activist) masquerading as a strict constructionist.

MasterJaguar01 -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (6/11/2023 8:18:25 AM)

I remember a time when the Access Hollywood tapes would be enough to disqualify a candidate. The constant grift and lying. Using the military and Secret Service as a cash machine for his hotels and golf courses. The obedience to and collusion with Russia and North Korea, and the attempted collusion with China.

2 impeachments. 2 indictments.

Having an extramarital affair with a porn actress while his wife was pregnant with his son. The catch and kill tabloid hush money scheme.

Now this:

From the indictment:

In July 2021, at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey ("The Bedminster Club") , during an audio-recorded meeting with a writer, a publisher and two members of his staff, none of whom possessed a security clearance, TRUMP showed and described a "plan of attack" that TRUMP said was prepared for him by the Department of Defense and a senior military official. TRUMP told the individuals that the plan was "highly confidential" and "secret". TRUMP also said, "as president, I could have declassified it, " and "Now I can't you know but this is still a secret."

He is on TAPE saying this! The world should be horrified at this. He is a like a 12 year old bragging to his friends about the secret stuff he gets to see. How is this even close to the maturity required to be President? He is absolutely, 100% proven a National Security risk. He could NEVER qualify for any security clearance in a million years. This bozo has NO business anywhere near our classified information.

Also...

On March 30, 2022, the Federal Bureau of Investigation ("FBI") opened a criminal investigation into the unlawful retention of classified documents at the Mar-a-Lago club. A federal grand jury began the next month. The grand jury issued a subpoena requiring TRUMP to turn over all documents with classification markings. TRUMP endeavored to obstruct the FBI and grand jury investigations and conceal his continued retention of classified documents by, among other things:

a. suggesting that his attorney falsely represent to the FBI and grand jury that TRUMP did not have documents called for by the grand jury subpoena;

b. directing defendant WALTINE NAUTA to move boxes of documents to conceal from TRUMP's attorney, the FBI, and the grand jury;

c. suggesting that his attorney hide or destroy documents called for by the grand jury subpoena;

d. providing to the FBI and grand jury just some of the documents called for by the grand jury subpoena, while claiming that he was operating fully;

and

e. causing a certification to be submitted to the FBI and grand jury falsely representing that all documents called for by the grand jury subpoena had been produced -- while knowing that, in fact, not all such documents had been produced.

The lies and grifts are endless!

JVoV -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (6/11/2023 3:32:32 PM)

Doesn't matter, she has the job now.

And really, would you wanna spend the next few months hearing FOX News and other rightwingers bitching about how unfair it is for Trump to have an Obama appointee as a judge? Not likely. I damn sure don't.

A former president going to prison is unlikely, even if found guilty. It would just be a logistical nightmare, aside from the partisan hacks bitching about it.

Even if Trump was sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of parole, he's old AF anyway.

In my mind, justice can't happen. It's too damn late for that. We all know the bastard is guilty as fuck. That's why the office of the US president is so important. We need to know that whoever we elect isn't totally evil. But we knew Trump was evil before he ever made it to the White House. We're just lucky it wasn't worse, even with as bad as it was. I don't have that sense of doom with most of the other GOP candidates, aside from DeSatan.

MasterJaguar01 -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (6/12/2023 6:42:24 AM)

We need to make 2 adjustments to the constitution.

1. Remove or strictly limit the power of pardon for the President.

2. Require any candidate be able to acquire a full Top Secret security clearance before being able to be voted on by the Electoral College.

ANY other government job that handles classified material requires the ability to get a clearance before a candidate can start work.

JVoV -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (6/12/2023 12:55:33 PM)

And now I get an article from CVS News in my feed.

"Analysis: The Trump appointee, who has previously ruled in Trump's favor, will preside over a trial that could undermine public trust in the fairness of the court system for years to come."

Yeah, ok. Cuz any of us actually believed in the "fairness of the court system", or of the criminal justice system as a whole.

And ABC News has an article saying Trump's defense team resigned. Oh this should be fun.

JVoV -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (6/12/2023 9:30:40 PM)

CBS News, not CVS. Although, they might put frickin articles on their damn receipts now, for all I know.

JVoV -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (6/14/2023 10:57:46 AM)

Now the news is saying 37 counts. Yeah, whatever. Just find him guilty of one of the damn things finally, or stop getting my hopes up.

This is the longest episode of Law& Order ever.

Charles6682 -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (9/23/2023 12:31:10 PM)

The good old politics on the Forum. Always the best. Where are we now. Yes, Trumped charged with many felonies. Gee, what a shock. He was such a great guy. Who could have seen this coming? 👀

JVoV -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (9/23/2023 7:53:07 PM)

Thanks for the bump, I guess. Though you could try actually adding something to the conversation. Quite a bit has happened with Trump since I started this thread. Multiple felony trials coming up, which may impact his presidential run, though not likely. The primaries are pretty much guaranteed for Trump, regardless of what happens in any of the court proceedings. Really, the only question is who will be his running mate.

Tru,p loyalists would decree any conviction as invalid and if reelected, Trump would likely pardon himself if any potential crimes he's ever committed, or even been accused of or associated with on day one, and President Biden would feel Trump's full wrath, with law enforcement digging through everything anout his twelve years in tgw White House.

RealDominantLover -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (9/30/2023 3:00:14 PM)

Well, this is America and America seems to love greedy capitalist scum with all the debt and corruption they bring. They've been living with them for over 200 years.

Too bad in a way though, there is no hell they would all go MAGAs, evangelicals, baptists, soon as dead.

RealDominantLover -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (9/30/2023 3:05:24 PM)

I am late to this debate but I agree with JVoV, the right on the SCOTUS are all hacks and have shown themselves to be on several rulings.

wickedsdesires -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (10/7/2023 1:21:18 PM)

Only seven?

JVoV -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (10/7/2023 1:44:56 PM)

I forget whether this was the classified docs thing or Jan 6. Of course, there's still the whole Georgia thing, along with New York and however many civil suits. I lost count.

wickedsdesires -> RE: Trump indicted on 7 federal felony charges (10/8/2023 8:44:07 AM)

Isn't there a new twist on the classified docs. Latest development's in the last week revolving around more nuclear secrets.

Months after leaving the White House, former President Donald Trump allegedly discussed potentially sensitive information about U.S. nuclear submarines with a member of his Mar-a-Lago Club -- an Australian billionaire who then allegedly shared the information with scores of others, including more than a dozen foreign officials, several of his own employees, and a handful of journalists, according to sources familiar with the matter.

In my circle we wonder why he was allowed to run, why he won, he should be in jail many times over, and lots of sundry others.

Not only that we think he will win 2024. Be terrified.
