I am looking for someone involved in the r/l SF area community to let me know what the current culture is like there. I am helping a couple of friends in the area who are wanting to go to their first lifestyle event but want some headsup on the current outlook... so to speak. There is some concern as they have heard that people there touch without asking, disregard collars, etc.

I am hoping this is really not the case but before I reassure them I wanted to ask those who are actually there..

Can someone help me out on filling me in here?

I, personally, am not a public player, but your friends might want to check out the Kink In The Bay Area Yahoo group, and ask their questions and express their concerns there as well.

He seems to have deactivated his profile, though he posts here a lot.  Keep your eyes open for him, he is around, I am sure.

A long standing organization in the Bay Area is the Society of Janus (which you can find easily by google). They're a really good introduction into the community type of group. Many people in the Bay Area I've known got their start with Janus. They didn't always remain with them, but it helped them get started.

The last time I "spoke" with CrappyDom in an email he indicated he was going to take a break from this and regroup. I do not know how long he was speaking of but it would seem we will not see his postings for a while.

There is the Odyssey Group that sponsors the Folsom Fringe event around the Folsom Street Fair. There are plenty of places to go in SF.

There is some information in this link about this years Folsom Fringe and Street Fair: http://www.collarchat.com/m_486254/tm.htm

If your friends are looking for a club to play in, I would avoid The Power Xchange -- you need waders to walk on the floor... Far superior is The CITADEL (.org, not .com)! A clean and well lit place: 3 rooms, assorted crosses X and T, cages vertical and horizontal, medieval stocks, whipping posts and pillars, padded horses, shibari and slings, etc -- attendants go around wiping surfaces after use, and there is a nice vegi buffet too! It's mostly couples, no grabasses either, lol, though some may share if the mood hits them (no pun intended, really); there is a smoking room as well. The CIT often has "private" scenes (i.e.: Dommes only night) so check their web site for Events Calendar and Open Nights.

Have fun, enjoy, feel free to get in touch if a tour guide is needed!

A.

You could post this question at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/mahogany_pleasures_of_darkness/
or just read through the messages, it's a large and active group.

Sure.

The Society of Janus is a good place to start. They're totally safe, meet at Fort Mason, and are kind of boring. Most people join for a year and then drop out. See "www.soj.org". Their web site has a calendar of most public kinky events.

Bondage a Go Go, at the Glas Kat every Wednesday night, is a dance club with a dungeon. You can dress up in kinky gear and feel comfortable. There's no pressure to play; many goths go there just to dance.

The Citadel is a commercial dungeon, with mostly experienced players. It's very politically correct, in an SF way. Check the schedule; some days it's all men, some days all women, some days it's mixed, but never hetrosexual only.

Stop by Madame S or Stormy Leather for shopping. The clothes and gear are great. The prices are terrifying. But check the sale racks.

Avoid Power Exchange unless you have an unusually high gross-out tolerance.

That's the SF scene.  Enjoy.

I've been to the Citadel and can wholeheartedly recomend it. It was clean, and nice and people were friendly.

Above are a couple of sites that might help for munches, and you can also go to this following site for more info..http://edukink.tribe.net
The person that put this site up , put it on a newbies list and host a Eat and Beat munch every third thursday. There are also sereral munches in the San Jose area that your friends can attent to get to know the community. Best of luck to them.
