I think that alot of folks, especially in the United States, live under the mistaken impression that they are entitled to happiness under the mandate of some weird, self-serving karmic law.  TreSwank believes that profoundly happy people are in the minority.

"Only" 7 years? Gee, that's very encouraging.

Popeye,

I know it wasn't intentional...but that statement coupled wiith the photo of you looking at your watch...FUNNY!

I have always wondered where thoughts of an *entitlement* to anything as loosely defined as *happiness* comes from. I've seen the same thoughts expressed regarding love. No-one seems to be able to say why they think they are *entitled* ......lol
I don't feel entitled to having the kind of love I aspire to have...  In fact I've often thought that being so fortunate in so many other ways, love might be one of those things I don't get because other people deserve a break with lady lusck/destiny too.
However all of that doesn't keep me from wanting and hoping for it, because I'm human, and satisfaction/complete bliss is never attained no matter our lot in life/love, beyond short moments, so that we're always wanting more (in my opinion).   M

Absolutely.  Wanting and hoping for, is different to believing we have some type of entitlement.

If i spend too much time focusing on what i don't have, i forget to appreciate what is right in front of me.  That is when i get feeling down, so i keep a constant vigil over where my thoughts roam these days, and slap myself out of that negative phase.  Then i enjoy slapping myself so much so, that i get to thinking about more pleasurable things. *grinz

It was funny, wasn't it.  I hope he realizes that the statement "only 7 years" was tongue in cheek.
