Article on BBC web page today www.bbc.co.uk "More Britons Target Foreign Moves" would you move abroad / work aborad, if so where?

More doesn't mean many. When you read a line like that think backwards to their point in writing it. Remember the headline "Kids make great snacks". More may mean 100, up from 92 last year. We need more than that to get any kind of opinion started on the matter. Perhaps you could elaborate. I case you want my personl opinion, I will not go far to work anymore. I went thirty miles out to bail a friend out who got arrested on his way to work. (he didn't know that his license was suspended the day before) After all that driving I told him I wouldn't work out there for $100,000 a year. And no he does not make that much. Going to a foreign country to work is just not something I would do. It's not that I'm afraid of being beheaded, it's just not something I want to do. T

I have been to Italy two times and love the food and the wine. The Northern area is great and so are the people.

Hi I have worked all over the UK and all over Europe, but as Dorothy said so wisely in the Wizard of Oz - "there's no place like home"! Travel is nothing but stress when you've done a lot of it, and being in another country (let alone city) is a lonely and soul destroying affair - OK I could get by in Germany as I speak the language, but still no family, no friends and no life outside of work is not something I enjoy. Still, for those who decide it is for them - good luck with it, and I hope they enjoy it more than I! E

It would have to be Spain. I once spent a month in Rota, and fully understood why Hemingway dug this country of siesta, dandified men, and copious amounts of booze. EVERYONE is Spain is gorgeous...............even the homeless look like "slumming it" fashion models.

I would work anywhere unless the place is at war or its too poor, so that would exclude most of sub-saharan africa, except South Africa. I would work in China, Shanghai sounds cool, or London, Madrid, Paris, as well as most of South America except Brazil which has a very high crime rate. If a company wanted me to work abroad it would have to be in mayor cities for the most part, unless it was in Spain, love it there. But ideally speaking, close to Marbella in Spain, London, Paris, and Shanghai would love to work in those places. Travelling for business would be fun for me, even if tiring. I think most Americans dislike working abroad and some are even loath to work more than "half an hour away" from their homes.....which to me is anathema (even lazy from my point of view, I hate to say) as I am ambitious and can live anywhere....

Napoleon found that out when he commissioned a study to find out if N America would speak French or English. The ratio then was six English speakers to one French speaker emigrating to the Americas. Though many more Europeans did follow with most European Americans being ethnic Germans but Britain has had a constant flow of emigres through peace time when with most Europeans it was at times of trouble. I've lived and worked outside Britain for about 20 years in total and if I had my time again it would be more. I've worked in many European countries both legally and illegally when I was young and I've worked in Japan for a time but that was more commissioned work and I fly out to Japan this evening to do some work.

If I were to ever move overseas, I would head to Sevilla and get a little place right by La Campana (great restaurant/tapas bar right near Calle Sierpes, near El Corte Ingles). Yep, I'm there.

Enjoy the trip to Japan, I've never been there but have it on my to do list. Do you think that the changes have shaped your view of the countries you have lived in or that on the whole you arrive with a preconceived idea and then after a few months / years you leave having confirmed your original thoughts?

I've lived over seas to work before and I would do it again if I had the chance. It's a great way to take in other cultures. Hell of a lot better then just reading about things in the paper.

Japan is a wonderful mix of the modern, the bizarre and the traditional, there are parts that make Europe and America seem positively third world but its very difficult to penetrate the surface even when you have Japanese friends. You really must make the effort to go and make sure you spend time in rural Japan too. I've always found that national stereotypes really do exist but the reality for their existence is usually far more complex than the word stereotype suggests but I've always been surprised which is the attraction of living and working in another country. I've never worked in a country and left without having profound changes in my views on it. Though on another level, people are people and the majority of people in any country are decent and friendly once you get beneath the surface. Though mittle Europe I've always found claustrophobic and conservative. I have good friends in Switzerland I visit at least once a year and that is one place I hate going for that reason. Got to go, time to sign off for the week.

Yep, I'm there. awesome! Love El Corte Ingles, lol....just bought some nice shirts there not too long ago! But if you go to Spain you have to go to Marbella (Puerto Banus) in Malaga province. I would never move for a job... I would only move because i want to move.... I would like to move to Chicago one day, and then I need a job... But I am not moving because of the job.. Since i am from the netherlands, it will take a while (if not never) to actually do it. but no. not for a job.
