WyrdRich -> Fundamentalist Flashbacks (8/3/2006 4:06:07 PM)

Among the many belief systems I had rammed down my throat during those formative years, I got several big doses of fundamentalist/evangelical/charismatic Christianity.  I left most of it behind me but the whole "Armageddon" thing seems to have stuck.

Am I the only one getting a bit weirded out watching the news these days?

I'm going to get decidedly worried if we ever take damascus.

I should have known this was going to bring the Philistines crawling out of the woodwork.....   That 1 am alarm clock was probably a contributing factor.....

I can't afford the drugs, so I avoid the news to make do.

Part of the Armageddon prophecy has to do with Damascus falling. It's supposed to signal the fire on high burning off the surface of the earth.

No one really had a clue of how that might happen-until 1945.

In the desert, at Alamagordo.

Lashra -> RE: Fundamentalist Flashbacks (8/3/2006 4:44:31 PM)

Makes one wonder if the events have been orchestrated by the religious fanatics to bring about "doomsday" so that all they can point a finger and say "See? We told you so!" I mean after all they've been waiting how long for it to happen?

Some think the valley of meggidio where Ai was on the day the sun stood still.......as a presage, a portent............

SirKenin -> RE: Fundamentalist Flashbacks (8/3/2006 4:50:57 PM)

And this is one reason why I hate organized religion.  I remember that stupid armageddon movie well.  They showed it at our church when I was a kid.  I was traumatized for months.

justheather -> RE: Fundamentalist Flashbacks (8/3/2006 4:52:55 PM)

I get all my news from NPR and Im still worried.

mnottertail -> RE: Fundamentalist Flashbacks (8/3/2006 4:55:03 PM)

mnotter - brilliant!

If this subject really is worrying anyone, its worth remembering that almost all religions have a day of reckoning but that the portents of doom they have are not exactly as the bible relates, and given that the last book in the bible shows signs of severe psychosis in the imagery and language used, its unlikely to be reliable as a guide to the end of the world.

That is truely one of the signs of Armageddon, Level.

The man was all ringed up on grapejuice when he wrote it.....see the other thread on that definitive work.

mnottertail -> RE: Fundamentalist Flashbacks (8/3/2006 5:09:40 PM)

I mean this is about all fundamentalism Level, but we have only been focusing on the christian aspects......

That Don King shit is from the Koran,  I think; or the book of Mormon, I am not sure exactly.
