No....this is not a thread in response to the Satan thread.
It's August in New Jersey and that means one thing.
Jersey tomatoes.  They are incredible from any angle or taste bud.
Being Italian, I can make a whole meal just from tomatoes, basil, some kosher salt and a little olive oil.  I am in pure tomato heaven.
There is absolutely nothing better!

Slushy lemonade.  When I want something cool and refreshing, I throw some ice and lemonade in my smoothie machine...heaven.

Sweet corn.  It's in season and it's wonderful.

Add some tequila and it's even better.

Yes I remember the days of my youth as an itinerant tequilita picker in the Jose Cuervo fields of  Camden, NJ.

Those were a simpler time.  (I actually left the Army out of Camden)

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm tomatoes!   I got mine in so late this year, right now, they're just little and green.  I'll be having Jersey tomatoes for Thanksgiving!

For me, heaven is ice cold watermelon.

For me, it's sweet corn.  Pull the dangling ends of the husk and the silk sticking out the top and throw it on the grill.  Peel that husk back for a handle, no need for butter or salt.  Heaven stuck between your teeth.

Fresh strawberries (and then I make strawberry shortcake, with little Dolly Madison angel cakes and whipped cream). Or, just the fresh strawberries mixed with sugar. Mmmm. Yum.

I craved watermelon with my babies too!  Both were summer babies, so nothing was better than ice cold watermelon 2 or 3 times a day!  Mine would last several days....but it seems like watermelons were bigger back then (24 years ago!).....and had seeds!

From the other end of the spectrum.... Its cold here (at nights anyway) being winter..

A Heavenly Feed

Thick rich tomato soup steaming hot, heavily laced with thick cream or a very rich beef soup lightly sprinkled with salt and pepper and served with several thick slices of oven fresh (piping hot) bread smothered with butter.

Followed by:

Ox Tail Stew. Prepared in the morning and left to marrinade over night in a real beef stock (not the tinned or packet stuff) and heavily laced with red wine. Covered with Alfoil and placed in a slow oven all after noon (min or 4 hours) and served in the biggest bloody bowl I can find.

Finish with the:

IB Home made Apple Strudel served hot with vanilla ice cream and thickened cream, Black brewed coffee and either a good port or brandy...

A good vintage Port drunk with close friends on a chily evening siting outside by a fire.

Katy ship me some , please please pretty please!

Corn on the cob is my fav food but it gets too hot down here and is really hard to find.

omg I am so jealous of you

windchymes -> RE: Pure Heaven (8/4/2006 7:45:43 PM)

Mmmmmm, in the winter, creamy tomato soup with a pat of butter melting in it.  A grilled cheese sammich to dunk in it.  And when the sammich is gone, crushing up some soda crackers into the soup to finish it off. Yum.
