WyrdRich -> Working hours (8/4/2006 10:25:57 AM)

Assuming you have to work for a living, what sort of schedule do you absolutely hate?

This past week, I've had the alarm clock go off earlier every morning (1 am yesterday) with days ranging from 8 hours all the way up to a 14.  Now I get a 3 day weekend.  Too irregular for me.

windchymes -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 10:34:05 AM)

I've worked jobs where I did "swing shift"....switching between day shift, afternoon/evening shift and/or midnights in the same week.  That's the hardest on one's system...you dont' know when to eat, what to eat, when to sleep, etc.  I feel like I paid my dues and will never do that again!

KindredTotem -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 10:54:38 AM)

My job has split hours. We work normally from 6 am until 9 am then from 1:30 pm until around 5 pm. Mostly I add on another 2 hrs working until 7 pm. Not to mention when I put in more that would start at 5:45 am and not get done until 10:30 PM. I don't keep normal hours I guess is what I'm getting at. [sm=banghead.gif]

The worst job I ever had was 12 midnight til 7,  I hated it!!

Theslavetrainer -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 1:48:34 PM)

The worst hours I had were during deployment when you're "on" 24/7 for maybe months at a stretch. Even with rotation off the line you never really let your guard down until you're on U.S. soil.

cheshireboy -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 2:54:29 PM)

worse hours i ever had was having to get up at 5am for work and then getting home from work till 10:00pm.  i was one of those evil door to door salesmen...but i was damn cute and it helped in that....seems cute sells, even with boys

now what i hate is i normally have an evening shift...but sometimes my schedules gets changed when i have to work friday night till 8:30 then get back to work at 8am on sat...i dread those days.

My Brother told me about falling asleep one afternoon with one boot still on.  The other guys in the tent decided he must be really tired and let him sleep for 12 hours.

LaTigresse -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 3:19:50 PM)

My worst hours would have been when I tried to work 3rd shift as a waitress in a truck stop a bazillion years ago. I could never get any really good sleep during the day and was a zombie by 3AM. Coffee never worked except causing me to pee alot. When I feel asleep on the toilet and they had to wake me up by pounding on the bathroom door, I knew I needed to find another way to make a few $$.

MysticFireTopaz -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 4:25:16 PM)

Personally, I hate anything that starts really early in the morning (not a morning person).  I can handle a start time of 8:00 A.M. or after, but am a real bitch prior to that.  Nonetheless, for the right $$$ I can and have started earlier than that.  Working late doesn't particulary bother Me as it does most folks in My office.  Usually I'm one of the last ones there.

socalbbwsub -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 5:58:49 PM)

I used to work Sun-Thurs and had to be at work at 3 pm and 1 pm on Sundays.  It totally screwed the day up.  I'd rather go in as early as possible.

gooddogbenji -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 6:25:23 PM)

I used to manage a Pub, plus 2 shifts a week as night audit in the hotel.  I don't know why I accepted this job, because it essentially meant I would work 11-7am Tues & Wed (Thurs am) then work Thurs, Fri, Sat evenings in the Pub.  My boss thought that would be enough.  I usually ended up working Monday through Sunday in the Pub, plus 2 night shifts.  After about a year of 80 hour weeks and going to sleep at 8 am, never more than 6 hours sleep, I told the boss man to go fuck himself.  Which he prolly already did, so it didn't do much.

Yours,

benji

andyny -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 7:22:04 PM)

I work 9:30 - 5:30 well this week it's 10 - 6 and I hate it, I so miss my Sunday 8-9 monday 6-9 2-9 then 6 - 8:30 the rest of the week. It rocked it was like being off for 5 days in a row, which was great since I was in college at the time and also student government prez!

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 7:25:35 PM)

I am enjoying my actual regular schedule for a while, 7:45 - 4:15 Tuesday - Saturday. Granted, for retail, thats pretty good.  I have to give it up if i make management (for once I am crossing my fingers for a job with a worse schedule...) Then, until im established, I work when they need me... ah well.

BreakingGlass -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 7:58:21 PM)

I do the regular bump and grind from M-F, 8-5.  Trouble is I rarely feel fully awake until at least 10 in the morning.  And if I had my druthers I wouldn't be going to bed until around 1 or 2 AM.  Regular business hours are, oh, what's the term, teh suck.

MysticFireTopaz -> RE: Working hours (8/4/2006 10:38:13 PM)

I know what you mean.  I'm not fully awake until about 10:00 A.M. either.  I am very lucky that in My present position I can start at 9:00 - 9:30 A.M. and work unril 6:00 - 6:30 P.M. most days.  There is one day a week when I have to get to the office super-early for a meeting and I hate that.  I am physically present, but so out of it, it's almost like sleep-walking.

I am raring to get in the afternoon, when all of My early-bird co-workers are in a slump.  They beg Me not to schedule meetings for after 3:00 P.M., but that's when I'm at My peak.  I actually have a side business and work some more at that after I get home.

wysiwygitsme -> RE: Working hours (8/15/2006 6:21:13 AM)

I absolutely hate anyone telling me what time I'm going to start or finish work.  I make my own hours...results in some very short days, but mostly very long days.

DUDE!!!  That completely sucks...  [:'(]

RedRedWine -> RE: Working hours (8/15/2006 9:07:12 AM)

I hate working the weekend morning shift. I have found that I am less likely to come home angry when I work nights. Nights are more relaxed. Of course we are going to get rude customers, but most of the time they are kicked back too. But on the weekend? No. The people always are pushy and rude. The weekend is always stressful, and my general manager always tends to be get angry and instead of venting about it, she takes it out on us. That, and I have to work with her little gang of kiss-ass. I have to work the morning shift this Saturday and Sunday. I think I am going to try and pull my big boss (owner) aside and ask him to never work me this schedule again. I had to do it as a hostess and didn't like it, and I hate doing it now.

sleazybutterfly -> RE: Working hours (8/15/2006 9:27:18 AM)

For me, it's the evening shift.  It just screws with my whole day.  My favorite hrs were 5:00 am - 1:30 pm..(Mon-Fri) I loved this.  I could get up, get my day over with and then still have almost a whole day when I got off.

Bearlee -> RE: Working hours (8/15/2006 9:37:22 AM)

Worst job I ever had was as working chef at someone else's restaurant.  I'd get to the kitchen at about five or six am to start fresh soups and sauces for lunch... and generally left the damn place sometime after nine or ten PM.  Often much later...as I'd sometimes have to work the dinner line till close.  I wouldn't get home till one am, often times... and this went on for six to seven days a week for nearly two years...including holidays, of course.

I learned a lot, but...never again!
