                               DR. SEUSS WAS A HACK

Don't get me wrong...........I can appreciate the social implications in such children's books as "The Bitter Butter Battle", and I've also enjoyed many a childhood reading of this beloved kid's author, but that doesn't change the cold hard facts.

Seriously, how hard can it be to come up with lines like-"What would you do, if  you were being chased by a Smoo"?  See, I just made that up!!! Now all I have to do is draw some seriously fucked up creature with purple legs and an arm sticking out of it's ass, and get the whole thing published.

Every time I click on this post, I swear to God, it looks like it's called, "Dr. Seuss-Handjob."  That makes me giggle like a ticklish little girl.

Yeah, and how many times did you ride your Daddy's knee to "Mr. Gump has a seven-hump wump"?  Don't be knockin' the Doctor!

Sure, anybody can come up with a line like "What would you do, if you were being chased by a Smoo?"  But, to turn it into a whole book took talent.

You can't be serious!!!!  If its thats easy, why don't you publish something and get as famous as Dr. Seuss in a day and a half.

"I will not eat them in a house,
I will not eat them with a mouse
I will not eat them with a fox,
I will not eat them in a box,"

I believe that the real impetus behind "Green Eggs and Ham" was the issue of inter-racial dating.  For example, the inexorable antagonist to the race-friendly Sam I Am should have really said:
"I will not have drinks with a Jew,
And mark those black gals off my list, too.
O Sam I Am, I'll stick with white,
Because once you try it, you know you've done right"

It's a good thing that the old grumpy bastard finally decided to put a little color into his life, because eating frosted flakes for breakfast every morning doesn't sound like  very much fun to me.  I guess that this book also possesses some nutritional value!

According to my Bathroom Book , Dr. Seuss won two Oscars for documentaries made in the 40's.  "Hitler Lives" was about American troops and "Design for Death" about Japanese warlords.  Green Eggs and Ham came from a bet he made that he couldn't write a book using only 50 words.  Yertle the Turtle, was Hitler.  He fashioned the puppy in Marvin K. Mooney after President Nixon.  The Lorax, of course is about taking care of the environment. "Propoganda" he called it, but just disguised.  Also, it took him NINE months to write The Cat and the Hat.

i love Dr. Seuss.  i'm a teacher, so of course i would!  My favorite, i think is Horton Hatches an Egg.  I definitely see where you would think it would be easy to write like he did.  I look at a lot of children's books that way. "i am a good writer.  Why couldn't i do that?"

IMO, the best story is The Sneeches.  The Star-bellied Sneeches had stars upon thars.  And the Plain-bellied Sneeches had none upon thars.  Excellent story about both bigotry, tolerance, and big business.

I guess I was silly all those years, though, thinking he just wrote the books to help kids learn to read phonetically.

And, I thought "Green Eggs and Ham" spoke to the kids who were finicky about eating.....if you've ever had kids who made a declaration of "I don't like it!" about any new food introduced to them....."just try it, you might like it!"

Every knows that the story about the Starbelly Sneetches is really a metaphorical representation of the Joseph McCarthy era communist witch-hunt!!  (Just kidding.)
