Looking for mentoring in real time, local if possible here in Fountain Hills AZ but will hear from all about technique, experienced mentors who can, literally, show me the ropes...shibari, etc...

I have come to realize most things for me, as a Dom, are common sense, intuition, awareness of my role in my submissive's life and her role in mine, and utmost attention to everyday obvious and subtle detail. I need to focus and direct my energies. I am humble enough to be aware of the level of my own skills and ask for assistance when needed.

Any takers?

Books will start you on your path.

Whatever you can get your hands on. And then read some more. Then go for experience. Look for local clubs/events; travel if you need to. Look for a mentor without being obvious about it - become friends with some people and ask questions - be prepared for them to think you are new - and either take you under wing or expel you from the nest. Both are good for learning.

Don't take them for gospel - distill what you want/like. Never disregard safety.

Although I agree with Wolfie here, do some reading... I don't agree with his list.  Before you think about playing with rope, I suggest a little light reading on Pressure points.  If you get a knot in the wrong place on the body, you can cause major damage to nerves, spinal, bloodflow, or any number of other medical dilemmas.  Forget the light reading... go in depth.  Maybe read a book on Accu-pressure/ Accu-puncture as well. It never hurts to know the physical anatomy, where the nerve clusters are, etc...

Once you've got a good feel for where the pressure points/ nerve clusters/ etc; are... then I would actually suggest picking up a book on Knots, specifically sailing and or camping knots... Sheepshank, cloverleaf, double hitch... these are all different types of knots, and will assist you in your learning curve of how to properly tie up someone, and how, if necessary, to get them out of the ropes as quickly as possible, without causing bodily harm.

As for the art of Shibari, there are quite a few books out there, on the subject.  Go to amazon, or one of the book sites, and do a search on the term.

Does not matter whether dominant or submissive, one must learn to crawl before one walks, or one tends to fall on their face a lot.

I see this as no different than serving an apprenticeship for a trade.  Listen, read, and learn from all different walks of life.  Take your knowledge and develope your own style that suits your personality.  There are many confident people on this site that are all to happy to share knowledge.

I agree with what Loki said.
