Ok, I've learned to deal with S/slashed speach. Still don't like it, but I can read it.

Still, I have two humougous pet peeves when it comes to that.

Why on -earth- would you slash R/relationship? I mean, it's not like one is refering to the individual member in the relationship. It's a collective of both parties, so I suppose in that sense the dominant person is included and should have his/her name capped, but still....that one seem so excessive to me.

Second, -why- do people who like the slashing thing always lower case masochist? Especially when it's in conjunction with Sadist/masochist? I know -several- sadistic submissives and at least one masochistic top. This generalization bugs me.

Done ranting now.

dally -> RE: random pet peeve (12/15/2004 11:15:20 AM)

pardon my ignorance here but how can a masochist be a top? how can a sadist be a bottom? i just don't get that, unless of course you are refering to a "switch" in which case i would imagine that when they are in topping mode they are in contact with their sadistic nature and when they are bottoming they are being true to their masochist side.

The whole A/all T/them C/crap can get very annoying when used excessively, or when it's imposed, that's when it really becomes a pet peeve, for example, if i am chatting with a dom that tells me i should refer to us as U/us that gives me the impression they are way too caught up in the cyber world....but anyhow, For someone who uses it regularly or sparingly for that matter to type Sado/masochism makes perfect sense to me and actually I tend to use a capital letter when using the word Dom or Master or Sadist, and a lower case when typing sub or slave, i don't do it all the time and not even consciously, just because i associate using the capital letter with a certain degree of respect or of superiority, it's probably because it's become some what of a habbit from chatting online all these years in the bdsm rooms, what i don't get either is the R/relationship, i agree with you on that, is it two relationships? a Dominant and a submissive one? isn't it one relationship....it doesn't make sense.

HunterofDDesires -> RE: random pet peeve (12/15/2004 11:36:13 AM)

The slashed speech doesn’t bother me because I only use it if I feel like it. The same with using cap’s. I reserve my pet peeve for people that use the word true. As in True Master, or true slave.

See, it is very difficult to read to myself so I tend to read out loud. When I get to the slashed posts my roommate thinks that I have gone mad because I tend to pronounce both the beginning letters. Call it what you like, but it's still just funny speech to me [:D]

velvetvixen -> RE: random pet peeve (12/15/2004 1:37:00 PM)

I am not really a big fan of the S/slashing thing, so I don't S/slash except with one person who is a friend and is totally into the S/slash. When I email him, I become i and he becomes He and it is all good for that communication.

I save my ranting for dominant, dominate, and dominance.

As I see it, masochism and sadism are just stuff people like to do. Some people need to submit, but also like to hurt people. It's not the power that gives them pleasure, so much as the fact that they are inflicting pain.

As for dominant partners as masochists, there was a thread on here a while back started by GoddessJules on this subject.

I would say that by definition a sadist is a top, and a masochist a bottom, but I don't see those terms as the same as dominant partner and submissive partner.

IMHO of course.

And, please, note I didn't rant about -all- slashed speach. Like I said, I can deal with it and I can pretty much just read it.

Just the R/relationship thing.

Hello dally...

Firstly... I am not Dominant... I am not a Top either. I have never switched within my relationship. I am not Masocistic, and the relationship I am in does not contain(what He nor I) would call SM... but is a Ds relationship. I am however, Sadistic. As a 'labelled submissive'... I have no problems mingling My Submission with my Sadism... both make Me what I am. I have come a long way from where I was... and now understand My Sadism with His Guidence.
Pain is a beautiful thing to behold...

I agree with the ones in the following threads that say if the dominant is controlling the scene it doesn't really matter which partner is the masochist and which is the sadist.

Me and Masochism (GoddessJules)

Here are two other threads on the subject:

masochism

submissive sadists

sub4hire -> RE: random pet peeve (12/15/2004 4:07:47 PM)

I capitalize the word Dom because I have one and he has my upmost respect. So, many times I am thinking of him while writing. It just comes out.

As for any other online games, well I don't play them. I'm not online, nor in chat rooms enough to usually even know what they mean. Let alone to develop them as my normal speech. I'm actually quite proud of that. The mere fact I have a real life and am too busy to hang out online for hours upon hours.
I guess the only time I use a slash is when I refer to D/s
