I haven't looked at Rodney Dangerfield the same way since "Natural Born Killers" and after "Vanilla Sky" I never want to see a Cameron Diaz movie again (she scares me now).

What actor has played a role that permanently changed your impression of him/her?

SexyRed -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 8:10:19 AM)

I don't change my opinion about actors who take interesting roles. I respect their ability to act so well that some may think that is them.

The reality of Mel Gibson, for example, has changed my opinion of him. Roles are just that, acting. I will never respect him again. Someone like Tom Cruise, who I used to like for his acting, now has also revealed his craziness. So now I look at him as a person who I do not respect so much, but that has not changed my opinion on his acting ability.

Tom Cruise - Lestat - Interview with a Vampire

I realised he wasn't a totaly talentless dweeb and he could actualy act!
I was dreading him making a compleat pigs ear of the role but he did a reasonably decent job of it.

Robin Willims in One Hour Photo.  He plays it way too well.

MySweetSubmssive -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 8:23:16 AM)

Tom Cruise ... in real life.

Homestead -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 8:26:42 AM)

I like unnerving and creepy charachters. They push us out of  our cosy little comfort zones, and confront us with a larger picture. I don't care what actors do in real life-that's not what I pay them for. I pay them to entertain me.

LaTigresse -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 8:38:27 AM)

The first one that comes to my mind, John Travolta. I never liked him at all until the movie "Michael" then when I saw "Pulp Fiction" I just loved him.

MistressOfGa -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 11:01:47 AM)

I LOVE Natural Born Killers!!

I have not been able to watch a Jeff Daniels film in years, since Terms Of Endearment. His charactor was an ass in that film and I never forgot it.

I have always loved John Travolta (from his sweathog days), but when he played Vincent on Pulp Fiction, he completely blew my mind.

Tom Cruise is another of my favorites. When he took the lead roll in "Born On The Fourth Of July" I was once again amazed at his acting ability.

Tom Hanks is my all time favorite. I adore all of his films, in fact, I have them all too <s> Forrest Gump goes without saying, but I loved him in Bonfires Of The Vanities. I also love the fact that he has been married to Rita Wilson (Of Bossom Buddies) for years. It says alot about his charactor as a man.

Finally......But NEVER least....

Nick Cage! Talk about re-inventing yourself. I have all of his movies too, and when I watch him in Valley Girls or Wild At Heart and then watch Face Off (OMG, I was in heaven! TWO of my favorites in the same film!) or The Rock, I see so much improvement. I would not normally go and see any movie that has to do with 9-11, but Oliver Stones' World Trade Center stars Nick Cage, how can I resist?

Nice topic :)

Woody Allen in real life. Talk about creepy. I just can't take anything he does seriously anymore.

MySweetSubmssive -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 11:25:39 AM)

Yes!  Thank you.  He has migrated into that same freaky category as Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson.

windchymes -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 12:16:40 PM)

Anthony Hopkins, for Silence of the Lambs.  He's a fabulous actor, but I've seen him in a couple of obscure romance/drama's recently, and I just couldn't lose the image of Hannibal Lecter.  I kept waiting for him to grab someone and start eating their face.

MySweetSubmssive -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 12:19:17 PM)

Edward Norton in Fight Club and one or two other films.  There's something creepy and off-kilter about him (and I like it!).

Benicio Del Toro seems permanently greasy and grifter-like, but, again, I'm loving it.

jojoluvr -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 12:26:50 PM)

robert de niro in "cape fear" -- the scene where he seduces juliette lewis's character totally creeped me out.  still makes me shudder, just thinking about it.  he was really good at playing an obsessed, driven psychopath...

ohhh yes yes thats the one

(shivers)

I still think Hannibal Lecther is my farvorite nutcase rendition of all time. Such elegant and primal evil-and so unapologetic.

But Anthony Hopkins was always one of the most awesome  actors.[:)]

missturbation -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 5:34:04 PM)

Natural born killers was a cool film, to see woody harrelson play such a character after his stint in cheers was pretty good.
Mel Gibson in braveheart - best film hes been in. The passion of christ was fantastic too and i loved his take on christianity.
Charlize Theron in monster - fantastically played.
Films are just films though my opinion of the actual actors / actresses in real life never changes from the films they are in cos they are only playing roles.

MmakeMme -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 7:43:03 PM)

Paul Reubens

BreakingGlass -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 8:08:55 PM)

Christian Bale in American Psycho...twas a long way from Newsies.  And I liked it, I liked it.

BreakingGlass -> RE: Unnerving and Creepy (8/5/2006 8:18:47 PM)

Ooh, just thought of another one...James Spader in Crash.  He'd just been in Stargate; again, quite a difference.  And again unnerving and creepy in a good way.

Charlize Theron as Aileen Wuorno in "Monster."

I saw it just the other day, and you wouldn't even recognize Charlize if you didn't know it was her.  The depth of her portrayal of this very much disturbed woman was impressive beyond words, and she deserved every ounce of that Oscar she received for that role.
