Is anyone else tired of PC-ness?

While it is in the interest of saving hurt feelings and making our world all cotton candy sweet.. has it really helped interrelations between people or has it just made us all a bunch of hypocrites?

WyrdRich -> RE: Political Correctness (8/5/2006 6:27:22 PM)

      It destroys honest communication.

and i can get some class (but you gots to be really special to see that!)

and i dun try to be rude

but screw the PC.

the wankers can kiss my right nipple as the left one is already being kissed by other wankers.

Kedikat -> RE: Political Correctness (8/5/2006 6:50:21 PM)

hehehehe
Depends on the politics doesn't it?
Hmmmm politically correct in late 1930's Germany.....
Politically correct in Palestine when the rest of the world decides it's time for you to move out....
It comes and goes.....
It's really whether or not you toe the line till it is crossed.

CrappyDom -> RE: Political Correctness (8/5/2006 6:51:27 PM)

Republicans just love PC, try and say anything nice about socialism, helping the poor, human rights, even American civil rights or the Constitution and they foam at the mouth and attack you, I am so tired of being PC so they don't get offended.

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Political Correctness (8/5/2006 6:54:14 PM)

I have never been policitally correct.

Daddy4UdderSlut -> RE: Political Correctness (8/5/2006 6:55:50 PM)

Hmmmm.... well... I have a mixed response on this one.  Tortuous and winding language to avoid offense isn't useful, and hypocrisy is despicable....

But, when I hear someone say that "women simply don't belong in the workplace", or that "these fucking niggers are taking over, they even have their own tv shows"... I am going to push back.  It's not about asking someone to hide their ignorant thoughts to avoid hurting someone's feelings, it's challenging their views to expose them as fraudulent, or at least get them to shut up, lest someone else with as little sense as they actually believe them.  Ideas, right or wrong, spread.

Estring -> RE: Political Correctness (8/5/2006 7:00:41 PM)

I sure am. Unfortunately, I don't see it getting any better anytime soon.

MmakeMme -> RE: Political Correctness (8/5/2006 7:26:22 PM)

It's like most everything else - we push it past the point of common sense. It's like a friend told me a long time ago (paraphrased).

"To call me a Native American and to try to understand me is far worse than calling me an indian and keeping your distance. I am a lakota - it can mean nothing to you but everything to me. It is who I am. It is who you are not. We are different, all of us. We're supposed to be different or we'd all speak the same language and like tofu. To deny our differences, to try to make all people the same, is the worst form of bigotry imaginable."

Wow. I just went back in time. What were we talking about? ~ trying to clear the cobwebs ~

I have many Republicans in my family as well as friends who are Republican. Actually, when we discuss being "PC" ...most of the time we laugh and think it's hogwash[:D]

Before I ever heard the term PC.. it was called "Whispering bastard through a straw".

In the realm of political correctness, these sort of people learn the rules, go under the radar. But that is not altogether bad. The absence of these used to be casual statements are unheard by most, and not thought about. Like banning smoking ads and such. It has an effect by it's absence. But for a long time it lingers in circles. A  slow death by ignoring it. Political corectness has it's use, I admit that in spite of my annoyance at it's awkwardness. The thing that worries me is revisionist political correctness. Rewriting the history and facts. Denying facts. That is the death of truth. Truth is not always pleasant. But truth must always be there to be held up to the status quo. Truth stands apart from how we live with it. I do not want political correctness to deny any avenue of a search for fact and truth. It is up to us and our better nature and morals to live with the truth.

WyrdRich -> RE: Political Correctness (8/5/2006 7:50:18 PM)

Gotta disagree with you on this one Crappy.  It's the people on the left who start screaming about rascism anytime you try to discuss a topic outside the pc box.

PC came off the universities and those are just hot-beds the radical right aren't they?

Is political correctness now affecting the bdsm community?

I think like any way of interacting with others, going to extremes isn't helpful.

I agree in the ideas of listening to others, of being considerate of others, of shaping my language to be inclusive, of using words that are likely to foster communication and understanding rather than alienating and shutting out.  If those are PC ideals- I'm ok with that.

I can be a polite and nice person and do all those "typically PC things" and still be true to myself.  I don't consider myself being compromised by being socially aware and comfortable.

"Acting PC" can go to as unhealthy an extreme as "Being brutally honest."  People who rail against being PC are just as bad as the ones who pander to it.

I see nothing wrong with trying to be open and courteous, trying to be inclusive and aware.

I think I finally have this figured out.  You are a bitter little republican basher that never has any clue what the hell you are talking about.

All this PC crap came from the liberal left so as not to shatter any poor baby's fragile ego.  The current republican administration has not even mentioned ANYTHING to do with PC.  They are more driven by oil, big business and religion.

windchymes -> RE: Political Correctness (8/5/2006 8:57:57 PM)

I know all the PC-ism has turned the world into sniveling, whining, complainers.  What we need to do is to stop rewarding them.  You're offended?  Suck it up!  Get over it!  Get over yourself!

This post is 50/50 with me. The Dems snivle, the Repubs are avarice to inhumane. I agree that the extremes are too  too plainly evident lately. But the middlegrounds on both sides are too sanely quiet and overwhelmed. Squeaky hinges are getting all the oil! The majority is called silent and too rightfully so. Things have to get too bad before the sane middle normal get it up. That just keeps the rollercoaster going up and down, with bad times for all.

Silent, satisfied, middle of the roaders!!!! Speak up! Pay attention! Your's is the narrow piece of ground that we all cling to as we try to tear it out. It does not work on either extreme. The huge American middle seems to have no place to stand. But that is just BS spouted by media and the two extremes. There is middle ground. That's where it is all built on. That's where extremists live and stand as they scream for extremes.

If only there were a sanity party, reality party, people party. Even here in Canada it is polarizing to extremes. Hopefully we will keep more options.
