RighteousBabe -> World Trade Center Movie (8/7/2006 8:50:07 AM)

Good Monday to everyone,

I believe this week, Oliver Stone's WTC movie starring Nicholas Cage,  is out in theaters.  I've seen the previews and I'm torn about going to see it.  I feel like it would be an emotionally wreching movie to see but it also seems to have a somewhat positive angle to it...from what I gather, the movie revolves around two firefighters who were trapped when the buildings collapsed and survived.

Are any of you planning to see this movie?

Take care,
Tia

And who says you can't make money off a few thousand people being killed?

Wonder where the proceeds are going?

Yours,

benji

RighteousBabe -> RE: World Trade Center Movie (8/7/2006 8:57:40 AM)

Hey Benji!

I'm sure the proceeds are going directly to Mr. Stone's bank account....

So I take it you aren't going to see the movie then?

Take care,
Tia

No, I am not planning on seeing it. I just find it too exploitive for my taste.

No.  I prefer to push starving children into wood chippers.  It's a more satisfying type of evil.

Nay, though I did see an internet film from Loose Change recently that sated my desire for conspiracy theories. It was an interesting film, even if some data was nabbed from such respected sources as "Wikipedia". Still, it puts a finger on a general sense of suspicion I had since the attack.

Benji,

You are sooooo bad sometimes!  [;)]

Don't ever change, you sweet lil' darlin'...

Take care,
Tia

MistressLorelei -> RE: World Trade Center Movie (8/7/2006 9:07:48 AM)

I don't know if I will see it, or not.

But, I don't see a problem with a movie being made about this.... it's a significant part of history. We have welcomed lots of movies that were based on real wars, the Titanic, airplane crashes, and lots of other tragedies.... why not another one.

If it peaks your interest, or you feel like a good cry... go see it.  I wouldn't feel guilty about wanting to see it.

RighteousBabe -> RE: World Trade Center Movie (8/7/2006 9:08:47 AM)

Yes, I have heard much about "Loose Change"....is it only available via Internet still?

Thanks for sharing amayos.

amayos, could you explain further?

suggababy23 -> RE: World Trade Center Movie (8/7/2006 9:36:25 AM)

I am not going to see it.

It's too soon and a sick way to make money off of people's suffering.

Lashra -> RE: World Trade Center Movie (8/7/2006 10:16:57 AM)

I have no intentions of going to see it and my sub won't either.

I am guessing you think that Oliver Stone is going to go the direction of his JFK movie with this one.. well he isn't. I am guessing you believe in the Magic Bullet, and that Jack Ruby was being altruistic when he shot Oswald.

Im not going to see this movie with someone else's eyes, but JFK was a brilliant movie. The Men Who Shot Kennedy (often replays on the History Channel for those interested) was even more brilliant than JFK. I think the day JFK was shot was the day we lost our country.. there was a coup and it was never addressed, democracy died. But that is just me and I could be wrong.. although no one has ever shown me anything that would convince me otherwise.

On edit, I think I misread you, .. you do not believe in the magic bullet theory...lol

Amen benji ... seriously .

I think enough people have exploited 9-11 for personal gain . I am hoping this film will bomb .

I prefer to toss puppies and kittens in front of a semi on the highway.

As for the OP, most likely will not see this movie. Not that it's too close to home or makes money off of anothers suffering but because I think it's time to move on in life. I'm not saying forget what happened, but it's time to let the wound heal.

But for a lot of people, this is part of that process.

I didn't see the first 9/11 movie when it come out last spring.  I didn't watch any of the TV movies they did about it either.  For me it's still too real and too fresh and I can't distance myself enough from it to be able to gain anything from watching.

I think there is a difference between the first movie and this one.  I think the solemnity, the grace and the seriousness with which they approached the making and marketing of the first movie was very much in touch with the fact that these were real people, still around and still affecting a lot of people.

The Stone version however, I think was marketed and made like any Stone movie is.  Yes, I think he takes his work seriously and passionately and does a fairly good job of bringing a situation into perspective.  But he is a movie maker, for mass audiences to pay to see.  I think in general, we're still too sore for that sort of perspective.

I'm not against people profiting from others pain across the board.  But there's a way to approach it with respect FOR their pain.

Nah... No immediate plans. But I did watch ''V'' for Vendetta  a few days ago... and find it to be the most realistic portrayal of the ''current goings on'' - I love the way they continually mocked the word ''terrorist'' in that movie - What a classic

LMAO! *Winks at Julia*    Yeah.... I find the ''magic bullet'' theory about as ridiculous as the tall tale about a six-foot-six dude in a long beard, dressed in pajamas, hiding in cave somewhere in Pakistan with a battery powered laptop masterminding terrorist events all over the world.

* Where did that rascal with a beard go? Has anyone seen him  lately? *

Lived it - don't need to see a Hollywood version. It plays nightly in my nightmares.

Switch the channel when the promos run.

SirKenin -> RE: World Trade Center Movie (8/7/2006 12:54:24 PM)

I do not plan to see it, because I absolute hate Hollywood's penchant for cashing in on other people's suffering.  They have no heart.  They have no soul.  They will do whatever it takes to sell their mindless trash to the masses.  Like Talladega Nights!!!!  What a piece of shit!!  They market the hell out of that crap (if they have to market it that much it must be garbage) and I am sick to death of it before it ever hits the screens.

Yeah.  I hate Hollywood.  If it turns out from listening to others that it is not all ruthless exploitation of a disaster then I MIGHT go see it.  Not sure.
