No, we are not bad people, just people with different viewpoints.

What do Y/you consider "good people"?

The good are those who admit a sense of wonderment about themselves and the world.

There has to be some hardliners out there ... someone has to be believe Good and Bad aren't subjective .

Killin peoples is bad right ? You can't be a good person and kill people ... can you ?

Yes, you can.

MissTlTTYMilk -> RE: Good Human !!! You get a Cookie !!! (8/7/2006 6:16:55 PM)

"Good" people have killed people.....in wars, in self defense, and in error.

Littlepita -> RE: Good Human !!! You get a Cookie !!! (8/7/2006 6:22:52 PM)

I'm good, now can I have a cookie?

Vancouver_cinful -> RE: Good Human !!! You get a Cookie !!! (8/7/2006 6:41:05 PM)

Okay, I'm going to throw a wrench into this thread and see if it breaks down, explodes, or creates something new...

There are no good or bad people. Only good or bad actions.

Wrong wrong wrong [:-]

Cin, I disagree because a good/bad person very often act in a good/bad manner due to their inherent goodness/badness. Hitler performed bad acts because he was a bad person.

Vancouver_cinful -> RE: Good Human !!! You get a Cookie !!! (8/7/2006 7:06:01 PM)

Hitler acted bad because he was sick and twisted and needed to be locked up for mental conditions we still can't treat. Add to his mental condition a social belief that was actually supported by many wise men at that time. (Eugenics)

Hitler acted badly.

I stand by my statement. No bad or good people, just bad or good actions.

Oh, being a toughie eh? [:D]

So, a guy that beats the hell out of his wife isn't a bad person? Or someone that thinks black people are sub-human?

Mother Theresa wasn't a good person?

I'm not saying they are incapable of good deeds or even good traits, but wouldn't certain acts push someone into the realm of being bad? Or good?

Well when you average it out I guess you could have an opinion on if you think they lived a good life through their deeds and actions ... I would try not to label someone "good" or "bad" people .

Alot of people thought Hitler was doing "good" things . ( Thread was Godwin'ed on Post #: 28  by the way ) .

Right and wrong is subjective and is shaped by your culture . Anyone telling you something different is trying to sell you on something religious or political .

Now on to the killing .

If killing someone and ending their life is justify-able ... what does it take to justify it ?

How about rape ? When is it ok to rape someone ? Atleast then they have their life to live right ? So it should be easier to justify ,

LOL Somehow I knew it would be you that took up the battle...

They are both sick and uneducated people. Most likely they were taught this behaviour as a child, or saw people treated this way, and believe it to be the right way to act. ("This is how I was raised and it was good enough for my family, so it's good enough for me...")

These actions are very, very bad. So is the fact that we have not yet come up with ways to prevent this cycle of abuse/intolerance from occuring.

Mother Theresa wasn't a good person?

To you her actions appeared good. Perhaps to people of other religious beliefs her actions appeared bad. Mother Theresa simply acted in the way she was taught, and motivated, to act.

It's the same reason I work with special needs kids. I was taught by my parents, and conditioned by social praise that is was a good thing to do.

No, certian factors motivate us to act in the way we feel we need to act in order to survive, or in order to gain an outcome we feel very strongly we need or want to gain. A person is more than just the sum of their actions. They are the product of their education, mental health, religious beliefs, etc, etc...To label someone good or bad, is to believe in the black hat/white hat stereotypes.

I stand by it: No bad or good people. Just bad or good action.

Level -> RE: Good Human !!! You get a Cookie !!! (8/7/2006 7:44:05 PM)

There are some people I have no trouble labeling.

Just because some thought Hitler was doing good does not make it so. And just because one is raised to believe something does not make it so.

A 98 lb weakling walks in on some steroid freak raping a little unmentionable. He sees a gun on the table, picks it up and kills the rapist. He did a good thing.

Or am I just trying to sell ya'll something?

cuddleheart50 -> RE: Good Human !!! You get a Cookie !!! (8/7/2006 7:44:07 PM)

If your passing out cookies, I want one too.

[;)] at my friend.

I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree, cin. I can agree that a lot of behaviour is learned, and there are illnesses (sp?) to be taken into consideration sometimes, but I also believe that there are good and bad folks out there.
