BP said Monday it discovered corrosion so severe that it will have to replace 16 miles of pipeline at the huge Prudhoe Bay oil field — work that could shut down the nation's single biggest source of domestic crude for months and drive gasoline prices even higher.

Status: offline 		Can't say it surprises me either..except that maybe it took so long to happen.  i ride public transportation everywhere i go, which lets me check out the gas prices..and they're already higher tonight than this morning.  i also noticed in the grocery store on Saturday that such "luxury items" like fresh fruit, milk, meat, bread, etal, had all most doubled in price -- $7.00 for a quart of fresh strawberries...sheesh

Status: offline 		     And once we have all the pipeline crews up there, let's say "to hell with the caribou" and get set up on the North Slope.  At least with global warming the weather should be nice.

It only constitutes 1/2 of 1 % of  world oil production.

      But according to the radio this morning, it is 8% of our domestic consumption.  That is significant.  Can we all just agree that President Bush will cut a deal to the oil companies on oil in the SPR and not go there?

It's great PR to justify some major gouging.

       Sorry, I've already got a prison and "youth facility" back there.  You get the dump.  I guess that leaves Level with the tire recycling yard.

I saw on the evening news prices could go up several dollars per barrel, but of course that's speculation. Hopefully incorrect speculation.

Status: offline 		It seems the west coast will be effected by gas prices more than the east coast. This pipeline supplied 20% of the crude used in California's refineries in 2005.

BP had a 200,000 gallon leak in March which should have been a clue for them to examine these lines before the damage added yet  more harm to our environment.  And people say that man does not interfere with the balance of nature.... sometimes I wonder.

If this news just crossed the wire today and gas has already gone up in Oregon by six cents a gallon, how can this not be a scam? Today’s refined product is part of an inventory that was manufactured well over a week ago. And once the oil has been refined into gasoline, it’s no longer part of the speculative market - So how in praytel does the price rise six cents gallon on news that's only fifteen hours old when the speculative market can't be factored into play?   

This is nothing more than a prolonged scam with the sole intent to gouge the people. They've run every kind of paradigm /statistical analysis you can imagine {With computers} that tells them within a certain percentile how much the people will put up with before things get dicey -- And then they just put the slow squeeze on.... and every swinging dick just keeps submitting - And they know it!! And I think the submission and naiveness just sucks to no end.

Status: offline 		The really frustrating thing here in Alberta, is even though we produce the stuff, we get hit with the price increases too. At least a corrupt dictator would buy us off with cheap gas from our own oil.
We took a big hit in electricity prices because of the heat wave. The hottest spots cost us money because they were bidding up the power prices.

Who is this " free " trade for.....not us poor or middle classers..

They've tracked the gas and energy prices. They go up instantly, come down slowly and often settle higher than before. Free cream on the old stock, and milk it long after. Hmmm cream, milk, pardon the lame metaphors, just happened. ( my bad pun side creeping out )

The section closed has a 2 million barrel per day capacity, ( no info if it was maxed ) the rough consumption in the US is 20 million plus barrels a day. So it's a pretty good chunk.
Maybe other lines can increase flow from Alberta. Not sure.
Going to be expensive....

America virtually steals Canadian: Oil, Lumber, Electricity, Fish.
America imposes Media and Retail on Canadians.
Or simply put Canada subsidizes the wealth of America.

Yet rather then changing our habits and get away from being controlled by the big corporations, we simply moan and groan and accept the status quo.

They don’t want you to know that you don’t REALLY need them, and they are very scared that you will one day find that out.  

Two Final notes, about how much we are manipulated.

If Henry Ford had not bowed to Jack Daniels, our cars would be running on corn oil

If Coffee, tea, tobacco, oranges, had been discovered today, you would need a prescription to buy them

Hey, speculation is as good as done and reason enough to raise prices at the pump.

It always amzes me that the price at the pump for gas already in the tank and paid for goes up IMMEDIATELY on a simple scare.

I guess caribou are too stupid to find a new trail around an oil rig.

Status: offline 		The United States is raping us for all we are worth when it comes to natural resources.  It is almost sickening.  They buy our hydro for next to nothing, sell it back to us for a premium.  They buy our oil for next to nothing, sell it back to us for a premium.  Ack... One could go on, but why bother?  Nothing is going to change.
