Status: offline 		My Mistress will be flying internationally and wants to bring in Her checked luggage the Ds toys that She has bought while away.  She has asked me to ask if anyone knows if a whip or paddle could be seen as a concealed weapon, and could cause a problem, shold it be discovered.  Please if you have an idea, we are eager to know it.

Status: offline 		It shouldn't be a problem in luggage that's being checked. Your worst concern is your baggage being lost. I wouldn't pack or take anything that would absolutely positivly devistate you to potentially loose.

Status: offline 		As far as I know,  if you have the correct permits and it's packed properly, you can take a gun on a plane if its in checked luggage. Therefore I see no reason why a whip would be a big issue. Also to my knowledge, the term "concealed weapon" reffers to something being concealed on your person or something easily accessable like a purse. For instance, a knife in your pocket is a concealed weapon, a knife in your suitcase isnt. But thats just my overheated brain...

Status: offline 		These days, you can't be too cautious when flying - I'd really consider if it was necessary at all to bring whips.   I'd say her best bet is to bring her favorite hairbrush, and improvise with everything else.

If you do decide to bring toys and check them, don't bring anything you especially value.  Remember that those screening your luggage are low hourly wage employees - while 99.9% of them are likely honest, there's always that .1% that will swipe something that looks interesting.

Status: offline 		I would contact the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) under the US Department of Homeland Security. Checked baggage is now being screened for explosives; I am not sure if it is being x-rayed. Remember, there are still certain States where such toys are illegal

Status: offline 		I have flown in the US post 9/11 with all sorts of gear in my checked luggage.  Floggers, whip, knives, etc.  They know you can't get to it, so as long as it is not dangerous to the plane like the swab comes back positive for gasoline, drugs or something they will let it through.  I was a little disappointed when they let me though without a comment but I know I wasn't the only one flying in for the Folsom Street Fair.

With international flights that could be different and from what I have heard, Turkey is fairly conservative about these things.  If she gets a prude at customs it is also possible that they might try to make her trip difficult or pay duties on the whip if it is made of kangaroo.  I suggest checking with the customer service number of the company she wants to fly with and note the name of the person you spoke with and the time of the call.  It may be easier to mail her purchases but customs has even caused problems on shipping kinky stuff across the U.S./Canadian border, so that option isn't risk free either.

Believe it or not, they may have less problem with a whip than a vibrator.  A whip is coiled leather but x-ray techs are trained to spot batteries.  Every so often a bomb squad is called in for a vibrator that somehow got turned on and they tend to detonate the luggage.  If she is flying with anything using batteries it is best to fly without them and buy them when she gets there.

Just two months ago I flew out to a friend's wedding and found out after they checked my carry on bag that I had somehow left a 15" long letter opener that tapered to a point in that bag.  I was shocked when they let it through.  It didn't have an edge but that point was sharp and sturdy enough to be lethal with a little determination.

Status: offline 		This makes me wonder if the old "One Eyed Trouser Snake" is classed as a concealed weapon? Is it classified as an endangered species? Does it's owner require a permit from quaranteel to move the animal in and out of the country? Is it permitted to bring in and take out of the country? Such matters require much consideration and contemplation....

I agree.

If its checked, you can't get to it so you don't pose a danger on the plane. However, if the airline allows I'd lock my checked luggage to minimumize the chances of someone else opening it up.

If I fly to an event I never buy something I can't easily replace back home unless it is simple clothing -- which doesn't seem to of that much interest to thieves. Anything that I need or which I can't easily replace goes in carry-on luggage like jewelry and my contacts and my medicines.

If she buys something that is valuable but which it might be more difficult to bring in a carry-on then consider having it shipped separately to her home address.

Status: offline 		As a lot of people have already said, we flew out to California for our Honeymoon in October of 2001 with a whole suitcase full of our toys.  No problem.  If you're concerned about theft or loss of luggage, have it insured...I think they still offer that, don't they? 

Anyways...and instead of using the little luggage padlocks, use zip ties instead, as the inspectors may decide to check your bags and have to cut the locks off.  It'll save ya a few bucks anyways.

That sounds like a good answer to me, Iron Bear.  As long as you stow it in your checked baggage you should be fine.  I hope there isn't a quarantine period or leash law at your intended destination.

Wow, there is a scary thought.  I don't think I'm going to be combining any more posts  like that today.

I have just flown with Continental twice in the past three months with a large amount of toys.....one to Europe in my checked baggage, and the other flight a domestic, in my carryon.  There were no edged weapons or any prohibited items, and I had no problems.

They are being xrayed at most airports.  They are also being detected for explosives.  And, some are automatically hand-examined based on the sequence number of the baggage through the systems.
