I have come to the conclusion that with service pack 2 on XP He has removed the Blue Screen of Death.  Since Bill Gates embarrassed himself by demonstrating his fancy new fangled plug it in without having to reboot, I have not seen this monster that used to be a regular to my various computers.

Did he take it out?

Did he get mad at it and replace it with the Auto Update do you want to Reboot now?

Me I think he did

Why? Because the stupid popup will not let me be...I am driven to post this morning....I have been fighting the beast since 3am....when guess what Auto Update with required reboot hit my computer.  I am afraid to go smoke lest this beast defeat me....I should be the one to decide when I want to reboot...He once gave me that right...now he is HAUNTING me again

okay....yes I can go from Bitch to weird crazy thouhts....I am who I am.

Windows even XP has a feature that lets you automatically d/l security updates for your windows programs.
If it is enabled sometimes it requires a reboot to take effect

this is what we are talking about

LOL at brat.....me toooo...I waiting till I had that window of opportunity

Why don't you just turn off auto update?  Many of the updates will crash your computer anyway.  They are not always tested before being released to the fullest extent.
I pick and choose what I want to download.

Actually that is not true.  They are all quite well tested, and on pretty much any rig they will not crash your system.  I have been working on computers for 18 years, and in those 18 years I have seen ONCE where an update screwed up a program, and it was not even Windows.  It messed up Outlook Express on a Windows 2000 machine for reasons I have yet to figure out.  Uninstall the update and everything was fine.

ALWAYS download the security updates.  They are there for your protection.

The BSOD (blue screen of death) is still there in SP2.  You just do not see it because the kernel is far more stable than in the old Windows.  However, if you happen to have a hardware malfunction or a wicked ass driver malfunction it will pop up once again, forcing you to restart.

I would rather just take my chances, I dont think they do security updates whilly nilly. I would rather be safe than sorry.

I almost was when service pack 2, be we all adjust and they do seem to fix most problems.

I was just acutally making a silly thread. LOL

I see that got hijacked dammit...and I havent even seen benji today.

SirKenin this actually relieves me,  I thought I had lost this friend forever...or enemy such as Blue may be...It really has been a longtime since I have actually seen it.  Have come from DOS in the old days to XP.

The restart now window is till darn irriating when you do not want to restart right then...I stand firm on THIS.

LOL

I'll let my friend know that.  Actually he is one of the program managers for service pack 2 working with Microsoft.
I'm sure he will love to hear how he does his job.

I would also suggest turning auto update off after you restart XP . I hate XP .. but to give credit where credit is due .. I haven't needed to restart as much as I when I first started using it .

Tell him he and his crew are doing a damn fine job and keep up the good work.  Microsoft is the only company in the world that can pull off the monumental accomplishments that they have.
