mp072004 -> RE: can clothing be a fetish? (8/10/2006 3:51:51 PM)

Sure, why not? A fetish is simply a perception of a thing as exceptionally appealing, lending itself to obsession. Fetishes often involve undue or abnormal sexual focus on the fetishized object. In other words, you can have a fetish two ways: you can favor something unusual (like feet), or you can really, really like something that most people like somewhat (like nylons on women). A fetish is a fetish because of the degree of exceptional adoration. The ambiguity lies only in where preference becomes fetish. I like nylons, I like high heels, I like tailored clothing, but I don't consider my preferences strong or weird enough to be fetishes. Some appealing notions are appealing because they foster others--compound fetishes, as it were. Nalta, the woman in your message might have an underwear fetish that somehow stimulates her attraction to submissive behavior, in which case she wouldn't identify as a slave without her underwear fetish. Jason noted that his business attire fetish caused him discomfort, like an uncomfortable bondage position, and I infer that that is why wearing tailored clothing appeals to him. Monica
