TreSwank -> Rap (8/12/2006 2:33:10 PM)

Let me begin this post with an extremely candid disclaimer.  I despise hip-hop music with a seething passion.  Whenever I hear the unwelcome clamor of loud rap music or reggaeton coming from a car, I REALLY want to smash the window in with a large, blunt object.  That being said, let me commence my DEFENSE of rap music.

I don't like rap music because, plainly stated - it fucking sucks.  What kind of gets that uber-abrasive sandpaper feeling in my pussy (my metaphorical, superego-constructed man-snatch), is when other folks criticize rap for being "too obsessed with material things".

When you're a lower-middle class to affluent white person, the idealization in art tends to run along the lines of "social utopia", or some similar hipster bullshit.  Now, in contrast to the "waspy" young sophisticate, is the socio-economically depressed, poorly educated, ebonic-using, urban black youth.  I think that alot of these ghetto teenagers are too concerned with having enough to eat, and not being forced, out of poverty, to wear the same clothes to school every day, to really worry about "existential conflicts" or being "ironic" enough to run with the cool crowd.

I believe that a good chunk of art is the representation of an idealized existence, and if I were a dirt poor urban black, my ideal would be a life devoid of financial hardship. Even if I fucking despise rap music, I believe that it provides an accurate representation of the urban black kid's dream, even if it is a little short-sighted and askew. No wonder these kids lionize crack-slingers and pimps.

TreSwank -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 3:05:22 PM)

I also hate how EVERYONE is a rapper these days.  If one more stupid fuck tries to get me to listen to his/her freestyles, I am going to scream OUT LOUD!!!!!!!   This is a word of advice to anyone out there who thinks that they have the locution skills, piss, and vinegar to be a superstar rapper....................YOU PROBABLY SUCK.

Now, I know that some smart-ass out there is going to try to call me out by saying, "Why don't YOU try to spit out some freestyles and see how easy it is?"  My answer is NO.  I will never, ever, ever freestyle, and, even if I did, chances are I'd be really fucking good at

Alumbrado -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 3:08:46 PM)

Well, I live around the corner from where they shot Hustle and Flow, and man, let me tell you...it's haaaard for a pimp in the city.

mnottertail -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 3:25:27 PM)

I have a book, that no one else in the world has, probably, unless someone in their family got there nursing cap via apprenticeship in the illinois state hospital system in the 40's at most.

The book is called 'Poetry of  The  Insane', and the editor goes on in some detail about a phenomenon called 'clanging' (in those days) it is plainly Rap...

Just a sidebar, I really don't have alot against rap, but as your average white boy in the socio-economic structure, I avoid singing 'Off a Pig for Christ' when I am pulled over by the constabulary (or even having it in the CD slot), regardless of 2LiveCrew's admonishment that I do so. (and being black folk, you would like to think that some have a larger stake in avoiding this very thing, but apparently that has never been the case, it seems to be all about feeling.

Jus' Me.

"Off A Pig for Christ"!!!  That is brilliant!  Why did I never think of that?  Actually, the "clanging" mention is fascinating.  To think that rap was around in a nascent form that long ago is pretty neat.

smilezz -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 3:28:49 PM)

So basically you're saying that you just needed to start a thread that states you hate rap?   Ok..........you're point?  because that obviously was not it.
Is there a question, or do you just need to vent a bit?

~smilezz~

TreSwank -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 3:31:48 PM)

Did you read my post?  My thread was a DEFENSE of rap based on socio-economic disparities between young black urban youth and other groups.  I know that it's tempting to scan through the first two lines of a post and then voice your opinion without regard to it's content, but try being a tad bit more thorough next time.

Sarcasm can be really amusing when you've made an indignant, well-placed rip on someone...........but when you miss the train completely, or don't even know where the train station is located, it doesn't really come-off as being too impressive.

smilezz -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 3:38:06 PM)

<sighs> another that has no sense of humor....there, there, it's ok.

mnottertail -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 3:39:15 PM)

Well, there you go; TreSwank, perhaps you can find some comfort in a rap tune or two now, knowing that the genre attempts to describe the jenais sais quois of angst in some faction of our society, and that it has tradition, resplendant within and without our times.  I discern you got a little angst type o thing goin on, time-to-time.

LaTigresse -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 3:47:15 PM)

It might have had something to do with my calling him a yappy lil chiuaua or some such earlier...........

ACTually as a general rule I am not overly fond of rap music either. There are however, a few musical artists I adore that have encorporated a bit of it into a few of their CDs, this I can tollerate.

mnottertail -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 3:48:17 PM)

I own the shit outta will smith.

smilezz -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 3:53:15 PM)

*laughs*  nice come-back.  I see you had to add and edit it, but nice anyway.  pfttt...silly boy.

        You just said that because you wish I was your poolboy. (Even though  you are a Daughter of Sappho.)

It was pretty fucking sweet in it's original form, but I had to add a touch or two of refinement.

ACTually I don't have a pool. Besides, I think you would benefit more from a short leash and a shock collar. There is a glimmer of potential there.

Punish me, Girl.

TreSwank -> RE: Rap (8/12/2006 4:13:21 PM)

This is actually one of those "you had to be there" moments, but it was absolutely hilarious.  My pal and I were cruisin' around around New London after work, when we came to a cross-walk, where a "hip-hopped out" ghetto fella was crossing the street REALLY fucking slow, carrying a brown-bagged bottle and bopping his head in time with what was probably some beat-heavy tunes.  My buddy is the consummate, wholesome Caucasian boy, and when he said "Take your time crossing the street, playa" I thought I was gonna give up the ghost from laughing so hard.  He said it in this super dry "My Hood's Silicon Valley" type way, that tickled me like a teenage girl giggling at a picture of Orlando Bloom in "Tiger Beat".

Now this got me laughing......just the vision of spanky giggling while looking at a photo of Orlando Bloom.........oh myyyyyyyyy!

This is what happens when the Viagra AND the Enzyte shipment are late in the same week.  (It has a tendency to make one testy)
