Damn, while my computer was out of commission, someone else pointed out the fact it was couloir, rather than culor. (Though I'm happy to have learned a new word. Words are fun. Whee.) 'course, what she missed is that apparently "culo" means "ass" in Spanish. But then again we're not all here to be wowed by MD's amazing vocabulary skills. That said.... quote:
ORIGINAL: BeachMystress Moleculor you sometimes have good things to say, and I've enjoyed following some of your posts. It would be nice if you could manage to tone things down a bit though. One wonderful thing about this site is that while people disagree, they are less likely to do it via blunt attacks. You are very free to voice your opinion. I encourage it. But, calling someone an idiot because they voiced THEIR opinion is a bit over the top to me. It's not based on a single opinion. quote:
She does have a very valid point. There are some people who are more knowledgeable and when they share their information, it is valuable. I love having access to such. While old doesn't mean better, neither does new. Would you dispose of the works of Einstein because we have Stephen Hawking? Of course not. In any endeavour, we learn from those who have come before us. Right, but do we try and shut Stephen Hawking up because we've already had Albert Einstein? So what if someone asks the same question again? We'll get different responses the second/third/sixty-sixth time around, and maybe new ideas will come forth. The old information will still be repeated if it's still valid. And hell, there's someone on this board who really likes running through threads and responding with nothing but a list of previous threads on similar topics, so it's not like the information is GOING anywhere. (And as I've read, apparently MistressDREAD thought that posts were actually getting deleted? That's crazy talk! No forum worth visiting would EVER delete posts intentionally. In fact, I don't think I've EVER seen a forum that intentionally deletes posts after a certain time limit. I've seen it happen accidentally, but more because of software changes and the like.) quote:
And, there is a real problem with the "mainstreaming" of BDSM. It means a lot of people are figuring it out on their own, rather than having the help of a mentor. It is wonderful that we have more scene friendly people. But for some, the only mentoring they get is via these forums. I personally would not bump an old thread unless I had something to say on the subject. I can see why someone who was interested in sharing what they considered to be valuable knowledge would do so. We have different people on the site daily. It might be interesting to get a new perspective by hearing what they have to say about the older stuff. Correct me if I'm wrong, but... A) The mainstreaming of BDSM has lead to MORE mentoring, not less. B) If you truly want new perspectives on old topics, then that requires new threads to be started on old topics, rather than old topics being bumped. Significant numbers of people on the internet actually HAVE some modicum of netiquette, and will actually check dates before posting. Still others feel that if a thread is long enough, everything worth saying has been said. Or a thread might be too long for them to feel like reading, so they won't post to it at all. So fresh threads are needed from time to time. Reusing the same ones just leads to stagnation and decay.
