As usual, the innocent must suffer the punishments of the guilty. Because of a few bad apples, all of us have to be treated like children. An example is that no one may buy gas without prepaying or inserting there credit/debit card first.

For those who have not herad, the state of Utah has passed a law that all products containing psudoephedrine aka sudafed, can no longer be perchased without a Dr Prescription. This idea is to crack down on meth head making crystal meth. Thanks to a few dope heads, I garuntee that this new law will pass from state to state and possibly become a federal law as well.

All because of a few idiots, we all have to be treated like idiots. Anyhow, I seriously doubt that the new law will work. None of the other laws of keeping psudoepedrine products behind the counter and declairing that so much can only be sold at a time has not seem to have done any good in stoping the crystal meth production.

All because of a few bucks is more like it....

The last time I bought an OTC sinus medicine they tacked on an extra fee because it was being 'handled' by the pharmacy staff.

Making deregulated products 'prescription only' will cause the prices (read profit margin) to skyrocket.

The stuff with psuedoephedrine has been btc (behind the counter) here for some time, but the pharmaceutical companies are making the same sorts of cold / sinus meds without that ingredient. If you want one of the btc products here, you are only allowed to purchase a max of to pseudoephedrine products at a time. Wonderful news about making it all prescription. You can't hear it, but there was a plainly derisive tone in that comment.

They are kept behind the counter here, but we can still buy them.  Same as Tylenol 1.  No big deal.

Anyone who says those concerned with the government trying to leach as much money as possible is an America hater hasn't been keeping up with current events the past 20 years, imho.  It's ok, I know news is boring stuff.  In America, dissent is patriotic, if your ultimate goal is protecting the human rights and freedoms of the American people.

In Maryland now you can't pickup over the counter Clairitin D from the store shelf anymore, (according to my pharmacy)you have to go back to the pharmacy, show a drivers license and you can buy up to 2 boxes of it. Yep thanks to the druggies we have to deal with these kinds of things.

Goodbye.

Honestly, I have no problem with it.  I'm allergic to pseudoephedrine anyway.  I'm actually allergic to all cold medicines.  Hell, I'm even allergic to Tylenol.  I can take Advil (though not right now) and that's about it.  As long as they don't get rid of Advil, I'm gravy.

Seriously, though, it sucks that the small minority chooses to abuse their options and ruins it for the rest of us.  However, I understand why it's necessary.  Indiana has the most meth arrests per capita of any state in the US.  I've lost friends and loved ones to it.  It's a horrible, horrible dirty drug, and I support getting it off the streets.  Besides, you can still get your cold medicine.  You just have to see a doctor first.

Actually, how much does cold medicine really help?..everytime I took cold meds it seemed to cause cold to linger longer..If I simply suffered through the whole thing I seemed to get through it rather quickly...sure it masks symptoms..but now I am beginning to think that by the masking of symptomology it delays healing..could be wrong tho...,.....Tempting

If you have to ask, you are very lucky... there are more than a few people who need that stuff to fuction without blinding pain...

I only need it every so often, I know others that munch them like M&Ms.

Right that it treats only symptoms, not the disease; doesn't prolong healing. Could reduce likelihood of secondary infection. Could increase the likelihood of secondary infection. So if it feels good, do it :-) otherwise, it's not definitively harmful or helpful.

Unfortunatly, cold medicine has never been a cure for the sniffuls and sore throat. It's only an aide to help you breath and relieve pressure/pain along with stoping that constant need to keep whiping your nose.

Whatever the case, it's still up to your body to fight the forign infection when using these over the counter products.

Anyhow, does anyone really want to pay a $10 copay or $100 without insurance to see a Dr for some sudafed that only cost five to ten dollars to purchase? When you have a runny nose, you want it to stop ASAP. If you have an appointment scheduled two days later, you may already have battled out the worst. The ER is going to be thrilled having a few extra thousand comming in because the have a runny nose and need a prescription for sudafed.

I don't take the stuff myself.  I rely on vitamin C, herbal tea, lots of water, and rest. Oh and stay away from sugar and caffeine while sick.

Cold medicine has always made me feel worse.  Except Nyquil.  I'll admit to taking a few swigs of that before bedtime...chalk it up to the "getting my rest" part of my remedy :)

hi there-

i eat quite abit of those. here in PA they put in a behing the counter law- which i support.

low and behold, ild buy the 2 limit each visit to be safe. well next they cant find the key and dont bother to stock the product,.

the new stuff can not be broke down to cook meth.

so i tried to new stuff. it doesnt work.

clariton is now otc- but still doesnt quite hit the spot.

the manufactures will by default stop making it - as there is a hogepog of laws- it is easier to distribute this way.

Last time I bought cold medicine I had to show ID - no problem. What irks me is that I can't just buy the decongestant (sudafed, actifed) it doesn't seem to be stocked here. I have to get the stuff with paracetamol in it as well as the pseudoephedrine. I only want to unblock my nose and dry it up so I can sleep better - if I wanted a painkiller I'd take it separately

The last time my Dom I were in CVS to buy some OTC meds he had to give his name, address, phone number, and driver's license number before he could buy it. They are cracking down on the kids getting their hands on the stuff. Sure that is great, but my Dom is over 60 and really doesn't look like a drug user or a teenager.

When it becomes illegal to buy Sudafed, only the criminals will have it.
