I have to say, it wouldn't bother me in the least if they took it off the market all together. All pharmecuticals, even over the counter ones, have many risks to them. I do not take this shit anyways. It makes me loopy (Or  should I say more loopy). I have to wonder if it is used to make meth, what does it do in your body? Taking zinc is much better for a cold. We rely on the richest industry in the world to sell us remedies... I think I shall pass unless it is life or death... although I do like Advil when my muscles hurt...smiles

Water is also used to make meth. I would keep drinking it, though.

You cannot truly be serious? There is a sharp difference between the liquid you need for life, the universal solvent, and the shit they put in cold medicine, or have you read the side effects of this stuff on the back of the label.

Water kills a lot more people than Sudafed. Orders of magnitude more. Especially in tsunami years.

I'm mostly joking -- Sudafed is certainly a MUCH more toxic chemical than water. But the fact that it can be used in the production of meth is a largely unrelated fact. I was just making a partly tongue-in-cheek point that your logic for not taking it is ill-founded.

I agree.  Then again, pseudoephedrine makes me see little green men.  No, I'm not joking.  It's a strange allergic reaction, but I get violently nauseous, run a very high fever, and hallucinate whenever I take it.

twicehappy -> RE: Say Good-bye to Cold Medicine (8/15/2006 4:23:00 AM)

Tell me about it. Jewel uses an OTC medicine to control her asthma. Now i have to show 2 forms of ID and file an application guaranteeing my purchase with the life of my firstborn child in order to buy it for her. Not to mention i used to pay $6.99 for 48 pills and over a months time the cost double while the number of pills per bottle was cut in half.

Heaven forbid the sick actually get the medicine they need because a meth head uses it too. The best part; Scooter decided we should buy it in quantity so we would have it and to save some on the cost, we found a website where we could buy a thousand double strength pills for $89.99 no ID required.

MistressMaamNH -> RE: Say Good-bye to Cold Medicine (8/15/2006 5:24:00 AM)

17 years ago I had My nose broken at work, I had it set, and thought all would be fine. Since then, I have been plagued with chronic sinus headaches.  I  do not like taking medication, but these frequently approach migraine status. The ONLY thing that would touch it, was if I broke down and took a couple of Sudafed.  Yes, it made Me loopy and I hated that feeling, but it was by far the lesser of the two evils.
I do not mind so much having to be restricted to getting just one or two boxes and going to the pharmacy with the little slip of paper to pick it up. What concerns Me is if it ever went to prescription only. Thankfully I have insurance, but there was a time there when I didn't have any, a doctor's visit for an OTC medicine is just insane.
I too have tried the alternative medication, and it does absolutely nothing for the symptoms.  Meth is a highly addictive,  simple and cheap drug to manufacture right in the privacy of your own home..no shipments across borders etc. So I do recognize the difficulty in trying to combat it's production/use.
It is a difficult situation all around, to be sure..

..in reply to those who have an allergic reaction to pseudoephedrine i have to say that it is the only legal drug to make any impact on my hayfever..........and i used to live in Totnes, Devon......the hippy capital of alternative medicine in the UK, so i have tried the alternatives.

So it is OK for you to take Advil, but when other people are suffering from agonizing migraine level sinus headaches which will lead to dangerous infections if not dried up, they should just suck it up because you don't care for of their choice of sinus medicine?

And then you turn around and advocate woo-woo quackery like zinc?

Hey, if it works for you, awesome.  I just can't handle the stuff, personally.  I wish it did work for me.  I get sick often enough that it would have made my life a lot easier.

So it's the only legal drug that works for you?  What're you hiding, philosophy?  Come on.  Tell Michelle.  [;)]
