RolePlayInTheOC -> Bondage.com Website (12/25/2004 9:47:31 PM)

FYI, and without any warning, they just changed their policy so that at least one of the members exchanging e-mail has to be a paid subscriber. [:(]

They're cutting their own throat with their 'boiling frog' marketing plan. I wonder if they'll ever get a clue.

I'll be pretty glad to see them collapse. They're hypocrites.

But their site has a few features--or, by the time you read this, maybe "had" a few features would be more precise--that Collarme might consider adopting. First, it was nice on Bondage to be able to see all the members who fit certain search criteria and added or updated their profiles within a certain time range. Viewing new profiles on here is more difficult because you can't filter them. Also, it was nice over there to be able to "coldlist" members whose profiles you've seen over and over. And their forum pages and profile pages were linked in a convenient way: each time you called up someone's profile, on that very page you could go and see what that person has been writing in the forums. On here, you can't do that.

Of course, I recognize that Collarme is free for everyone, and I strongly believe that that's the most important thing.

LAM:

Your post leads me to believe that you don't realize that posters to the message board side have profiles that are independant of the ad side. If you click on anyone's screenname on the message board side you will get their profile and next to the spot for the pic (meaning on the right upper side of your screen) you will get links to their recent posts.

If you meant that the message board side wasn't linked to the ad side then you are correct. But the feature you point out, being able to see a posters recent contributions to the boards, is possible.

Regards,

Yes, that's what I meant--and the ad side isn't linked to the message-board side, either. If you call up someone's profile on Collarme, you can't tell what that person has been writing in the forums, whereas on B.com you could do that instantly.

temptation -> RE: Bondage.com Website (12/27/2004 2:29:56 AM)

from what I know of b.com, and of this site... this is the way i'd explain it.

the site isnt run to generate money. aiken the owner of the site, whom i've talked to.. has said so before. that was his reasoning for not cutting out free userprofiles altogether; or restricting them as alt has.

the site bondage.com is funded for the most part, through the sheer goodwill of those who enjoy the site, and partake in the bdsm community. Premium members do share some benefits that free users do not, but those benefits can be counted on a single hand. For the majority of those who do pay for premium membership,. it isnt about the monthly picture gallery update.. etc. It's just about contributing to a community that they feel proud to take part in.

the site is a community site. the majority of the traffic is probably through the forum. where friends interact with eachother.. and this is why what aiken did.. makes sense to me..

Unlike alt.com or other personals sites, b.com isnt a few thousand strangers all shoved together on a single forum. it's more of a few hundred munches, friendships taken online from real life... and other various connections..

while this is what makes b.com seem so "cliquish" to those who dont know many people personally.. it does mean that b.com wont die becuase of the changes made.

And so, I guess what i'm really trying to say is that... b.com, for the majority of the regulars who participate in the community.. is less of an impersonal personals site, where one views profiles and sort of "singles out" potential.. uhm.. mates? partners? And is more of a site where.. when people meet, its more personal and less.. abrupt.

I'm inactive on b.com, simply because I do not like quite a few people who frequent the forums... but through b.com, I am now aware of a few local munches, and other bdsm related group activities and events in my area; and just that feeling of community.. seems sort of like what aiken is trying to project.

it is a little more exclusive now, but at the same time... its more comfortable for alot of people.

I typed alot, and i'm not even sure what i'm talking about
