What does it say, about someone I need to rescue?

What does it say about somebody who is drowning or starving and you happen by and feel a need to rescue them? That they were in peril, in one situation mortal peril and you chose at that moment for your own reasons to exercise compassion. Nothing more or left. You could argue the this analogy doesn't extend to emotional situations, but I don't see it that way.

I do think that in all situations in which a resuce is asked for, one needs to determine two things (1) whether the person is in genuine peril or not and (2) whether one has the ability--including any emotional resources that may be required as well as little things like knowing how to swim yourself!--to effect such a rescue.

I'm more than a little jaded on this subject. Most of those "rescuees" I have encountered needed saving from nothing and no one but themselves.

Something they refused adamantly to do FOR themselves.

They wanted an ENABLER.

And only a fool enables and perpetuates incompetence that is self-made.

IronBear -> RE: Knight in Shining Armor (8/31/2006 1:04:41 AM)

Traditionally a Knight was a man of honour, integrity, loyalty, duty, and courage. He would die for his honour, to fail his duty was unacceptable and death was preferable. His courage was expected to be exemplary. This is my friends, is the romantic notion of the Knight in shining armour. He couldn’t resist the chance to rescue a maiden in danger, or defend her honour.

Let’s flesh this out a tad shall we? A knight spent his early days as a squire to a neighbouring knight. He learned all the dirty duties and hard work, which his service entailed. He also learned and was trained in arms from an early age. If he proved that he has what was acceptable to be considered for knighthood he may be chosen. Often his master or father would give him a gift of a horse, arms and armour on his knighting. In the 12thC the common armour was chain (it is incorrect to call it chain mail) or a coat of mail (same thing as chain). During long wars like the crusades, his armour was battered and chopped about and oft irreparable. He would search or have his squire search the battlefield for pieces of armour to replace his own which is why the armour was a mix and match. Why, you may ask, didn’t he have new armour made? The cost of a horse, arms and armour was roughly two years wages for him. The comment of shining armour dates to aprox the late 13thC and certainly the 14thC when plate armour was used. That’s the shiny steal armour you see in the movies used in jousting for which a crane was used to hoist the lad in his tin suit on his horseback. Now about the laddie himself. Even the most rustic knight was not stupid. He was a well-trained warrior who could assess his opposition and odds in any given potential fight. He didn’t just gallop of at high speed to save some female who was having  a loud vocal hissy fit with her parents or a domestic with hubby, he had both the sense and chivalry to keep out unless he could help all parties settle their differences. In fact I’d wager he probably had to be blood sure of his facts before he waded in to rescue the damsel in distress. Modern day rescue missions tend to work on similar lines.

In the traditional sense, Knights were soldiers, trained killers. Thier limited chivalry tended to be extended only to other Knights. As in anything, history cast a romantic aura around these men, long after thier demise. And the crane for getting onto the horse was a fallacy.

It was a humorous victorian conceit.

IronBear -> RE: Knight in Shining Armor (8/31/2006 8:00:33 AM)

Actually Homstead, not so as far as using a crane goes but i'm sorry old chap I for the life of me cant find the documentation from the period describing this. the rest of my post is relitevely accurate but of course their loyalty was to their Master whom they served and so much of their actions were political especially those in the service of the Robber Barons. Knights of a much later period did have some education and the chivilary was a little more of the romantic concepts. yet knights in more modern periods were and are quite closer to the idealistic (or at least the ones I know personally are and no I never never been knighted in real life and will never be so for logical reasons). My point regarding the knights not being fools and trained, highly trained in the most part combatants is accurate.

Climbs down off his white steed and parks his armor to the side.
I feel that most of us, particularly ones who seek control, can fall prey to those who appear in need. Luckily, though the school of hard knocks, most of us so inclined to think we have to save the world, learn that it's just too much maintenance to start out with someone who needs saved from themselves. Certainly it's a noble gesture, but in the end, attempting to bring someone back from the brink will only end up fruitless. Perhaps that's partially words of experience, perhaps partly just observation. To me, someone with valid wants and needs but having their head screwed on straight is paramount...those with self esteem so low it's under the basement, need to at least get to the surface before seeking someone to pull them up onto that stallion.
OK..nuff from me..I off to a joust...lol.

it's great that people can get their chit together, and there's no reason not to keep trying to be better.

at the same time, both of the doms i have been seriously involved with were, first and foremost, protectors and healers. I was rescued indeed and continue to be the girl in the arms of her "knight in shining armor".

peace

Hummmm, me, a knight in shinning armour?  Maybe the black night.  Before any slave enters my house she knows enough about me to know who I really am...... and perfect ain't even close.  Personally, I think that if a slave is looking for a KiSA, she is most likely going to be disappointed, or very lucky.  Masters are just men, a different kind than the "average" man, but still men, with good and bad traits....... hopefully more good than bad. But then there are those of us that have more bad than good, but have learned to overcome that.  WEG.

Be the Knight In Shinning Armor is a waiste of time. Have you ever broken up with a guy for being too nice and or too gentle?

Face it. It's the misunderstood barbarian that you really want.

Tamerofwild1s -> RE: Knight in Shining Armor (9/1/2006 6:17:32 PM)

me conan .. you sir loin ........ is that better

IronBear -> RE: Knight in Shining Armor (9/1/2006 6:23:44 PM)

Ahhhh but FnF, whilst I agree with you in part, end yet i know the pangs of rejectkion for being too nice but I wear with pride those marks of rejection for being Honourable and a Gentleman ~ They were unworthy of me! However it is simple my friend, be a Barbaric Knight and you may be closer to the historic Knights.. Ever remember:

"In days of old,
When nights were cold,
And frangers (condoms for the non Knightly ones) weren't invented,
They used their socks,
To cover their cocks,
And keep the women contented!"

I believe that anyone who desires to 'take up the mantle' for another:
1. Should fully unfderstand that it is thankless
2. Should not go about acting as though this in some vague and specious way makes them better than any other person
3. Should understand that the "lumps that come with it" are deserved in most instances and are not to be whined about
4. Has their heart in the right place and their common sense has gone out the door.

I will defend someone who requires it - but, often times it is their choices that brought them to the place they are at - and, the defense would have to be a continuous thing - as they make the same mistakes over and over again.

I think we often have a moral obligation to defend the weak and misused - but, not the stupid and the "soap opera mavens" of the world..

It's interesting to note how many rescuers often end up needing to be rescused from those damsels. How amusing, no good deed goes unpunished.

sublizzie -> RE: Knight in Shining Armor (9/2/2006 6:10:02 AM)

And it's interesting how many damsels end up needing to be rescued from "knights" who were only playing at rescuing and were really looking for someone to rescue them. BTDT.

I do not need to be rescued but it would be nice to have someone who was willing to put in the effort needed to help me when I need help and accept my help when he needs it. But not talk like he is going to help when he doesn't or not want help while leaning so heavily on me that I am crushed under his load.

IronBear -> RE: Knight in Shining Armor (9/2/2006 9:21:18 AM)

On the rare occasions when I have mounted a rescue mission in the lifestyle or similar, I have had the following ready and activated:
  • A safe house replete with food and other necesities.
  • Legal help if required.
  • Medical Help if needed.
  • Back up in case the situation esculated.
It would not be the first time that the "Beenleigh Dunny Door Destroying Emu, has taken a door of it's hinges in a final resort or faced an armed pissed of his head pretend Dominant and a brutalised and broken sub.  It's amazing how cowered these "brave" abusers are when seeing their door which they closed in the face of someone comes off  it's hinges and they are faced with a 6'6" 280+lb man dressed in black conbat gear and body armour..  never had problems with local law and never picked the wrong resuce to effect. each one was 100% genuine (I did my homework and had really good, accuate and reliable intel). I'm no Knight.. heh The Crown can not Knight me but I just do what I do best and what I am trained for and experienced in..

Once out and at the safe house  I hand over to other people including a friendly social worker if needed. However the operation is done under my terms or not at all. All the theory and postul;ating here is just so much hot air unless you are ready to put it intop practice and if you are best you put together a team of people professional in their field.. I dont play or fuck or even take hot showers at midnight with amateurs. Amateurs will get you killed. professionals know what they are doing, ask any SWAT member and they will tell you the same thing..
