When in your life, if ever, have logic and intuition been at odds?  Supposedly, if something is “right”, if you are “following your destiny”, than there are few, if any, opposing feelings.  I can be sexist and state that women are better qualified to answer this question, as we are notorious for our intuition.  But males out there too – do you appreciate intuition?

I ask because I was blessed/cursed with one very logical parent and one very intuitive parent.  I’m the “poster child” for the “grey area”.  It brings greatness in my life, but also great debates within myself.

Sorry – I’m in a profound mood tonight.

I have to say I deal with these problem most every day. Being a Libra and always wondering if my decision is the best one. Sometimes I get so confused I choose to make no decision until it's made for me.

Well, I am a Pisces - I always use my intuition over my logic - if there's a "contest", and have no problem doing it, because I have (if I do say so myself) really good intuition.

Not that it can't be over-ruled by things like a need to please people, or to be "polite" (it was last week-end, when I had a potential stalker follow me home from a bdsm "play" house because I could not seem to tell him to "get lost" even though I should probably have done just that) But - most of the time, my intuition is pretty reliable for me.

*I don't necessarily believe intuition and logic are completely separate phenomena. I think intuition is, to a degree,  just logic ramped up to lightning speed, in that it takes a lot of "data" about a situation in - on a subliminal level within a person's head - when they are evaluating some circumstance or other - and this process operates in some peoples' mentalities so quickly, one doesn't notice the "reason(s) " it (intuition) can be so "on-target". I think intuition is probably a "logical" process, it might just not be noticeably logical. I especially believe this after having read this book:

There is a best-selling book about this process out now - the title is : "Blink", by Malcom Gladwell. It's a quick read, and an interesting book. It's about what the author (who is a Ph.D. psychologist) thinks intuition really is all about, and how it is really much too valuable for people to just dismiss, simply because "how it works" can't be explained to their satisfaction sometimes.

Oh, yes.  Logic and intuition have held huge battles in my head a few times.   Logic usually looses, I follow my heart rather than my head.
It has lead me to some wonderful things (completely intuition and not logic that lead me to meet my boy) and to some major disasters (saying yes to my ex's proposal a few days after we met)
But both times, it undoubtably FELT right... though my logical mind was screaming at me to back up, look at what I was doing and not lose my head.
Cant say I really regret following the intuition... jus regret not seeing the logical argument earlier in the one case.

I use a combination of the two and usually try to balance them out if possible. In the end I always go with my gut because it rarely leads me astray. In situations where I have made blatant errors it is usually because it was not a sound decision and I ignored this for some reason. I learn from these mistakes and move forward.

I did realize many years ago that you cannot serve two masters. When the two are at odds you are often thrust into a state of confusion. This is precisely when you need to step back and look at the bigger picture. The answer is usually staring you in the face but it may not be the one you desire, hence the mind spinning confusion.

When something feels unabashedly right I ask myself one question. Is this the right course of action because I need it to be right, or simply because every fiber of my being says it is? Having an understanding of your emotional state, fears, and silent longings really helps when you're torn within. You are less compelled to base your decisions upon these things.

If that is you, then I am worried.  You look like you will break.  Guess what ... you are thin enough.

I use logic like a winter coat- it's there, useful and ready and necessary.

And I can take it off whenever I want to.

For me, I just go with my intuition and accept the illogicalness of it.  I don't worry about the contradictions- in fact since I tend to see them more sharply than most people, I often laugh at them and myself heartily as I do it.

I've often had those same debates with myself- simply to come to accept that what works is what works, whether logic is the tool to get there or intuition.

Well for me when it comes to something like my schoolwork and i have a project to due i approch that with logic or i will never get it done.  That being said in my personal life i act mostly on intution and it has 99.9% of the time has been right, so i am gonna keep using that, it led me to my Wonderful Master.  I believe if something ain't broke why fix it?

There's an old military expression regarding this grey area of decision making, something to the effect of:

''If you are standing up to your eyeballs in deep shit... intuition makes you want to scream for help, but logically you are better off keeping your big mouth shut, holding your breath until you can intuitively move to some shallower shit.''

Intuition will make you swat at a honeybee, which is more prone to provoke the bee into stinging you with it's one-use weapon... logic would have you ignore the curious bee.

Intuition often involves ''what if'' situations, the theoreticals... while logic usually involves ''what do I do now'', the after-the-facts... and often because you didn't foresee your current situation through intuitive eyes.

It would seem that either one may be good by itself in many cases, while the compliment exists in the presence of both.

There have been many times that I have shut down my gut or my first instinct when it was telling me something was wrong. I later found had I just gone with it I could have saved myself a few heartbreaking situations.

Intuition is the ability to use the entire mind, rather than merely the logically limited ones.

I have went through periods of my life that were more directed at intuition rather than logic and vice versa. I am in an intuitive place in my life once more, and I do not think I want to leave this place behind and swing back to being overly logical. Being a human being is an illogical thing, living is an illogical process, and when we  impose logic on life we are simply rationalizing our illogical thinking processes and justifying these decisions. We can rationalize anything we choose to, and someone else will come along and apply their own logic to our choice which stems from their own rationalizations.

Its ok to be illogical..smiles.. you are only human after all.

I had problems with this concept when I entered therapy. It was the only thing positive I got out of the whole experience, that I could not make logical sense out of everything, especially my own emotions. My Daddy echoes these sentiments when I attempt to do this.

We can apply logic to our lives to some degree, but we should always be aware that living just isn't that kinda process, and I am going to make the illogical evaluation that I do not think it even should be...smiles

Often.

Although my ability to inhibit my "ignorance is bliss" side has been severely lacking.

Logic and intuition are like yin and yang. Both are necessary for solid descisions although for me there are times when one overrules the other.

when my  intuition screams at me I listen to what it has to say.  and then I weigh what its saying with what my brain tells me  then I do what my gut says.  but to be honest they are rarely in conflict.

I find that the two generally agree, however, as a caveat, let me say I tend to make a lot of stupid decisions.
