EnglishDomNW -> RE: What sounds make you smile? (8/17/2006 11:31:57 AM)

The sound of my Mother singing while washing dishes when I was a kid.

The sound of a football game on the tv on a cold day. (it's so comforting)
The crunchy swooshy sound you make when walking through leafs in the fall.
The sound of frogs and toads late at night when the only lights on are those provided by the lightning bugs.
Sound of children and babies in general melts my heart.

The sounds that make me smile are:
    -change clanging in a parking meter
    -rustle of Autumn leaves
    -children reciting The Pledge of Allegiance in school
    -a response from a genuinely courteous child
    -a puppy, unaware of it's size, barking ferociously           grrrr!
    -kitten purrrrrs
    -Meg Ryan in the infamous scene from When Harry Met Sally
     -Kimberly Stewart professing [on E!]  how smart Paris Hilton is and the size of her balls
    -the knob turning while the gumball travels down the chute
    -infectious laughter
    -70s music
    -water--splashing, trickling (exceptions apply), raindrops, etc.
    -toy monkeys with cymbals
    -the UPS man's knock at the door
    -expressions of genuine appreciation shown for simply things
    -answering machine announcing "you have no new messages"

    -so many, so little time

LOL  Meg Ryan was a hoot!  LMAO

I thought of another sound I like... bats!  I had a few living over the poarch at my cabin and now, just discovered yesterday that at least one is living in the barn thingy behind my house; I saw him fly out.  At the cabin they used to 'chatter' at me when I went in and out of the screen door.  I really like bats and they sound neat!

* My children's voices, of course. ~ smiling ~
* Gravel crunching under slow-moving tires
* Horse's hooves on pavement
* Supper club jazz
* His voice, even though we are not still together - love the timbre
* Muffled city noises blanketed in snow (although I disklike snow)
* Nighttime forest sounds
* Rain / storms
* Private quiet laughter that one is not supposed to hear
* Sleigh bells at Christmas
* Children singing

awwwwwwww... I didn't even like my mother, but I remember her singing while washing dishes, too; I loved that.  <sigh>  I cannot carry a tune in a bucket!

I recently moved from the mountains to the city so there are sounds I miss:
  • The leaves rustling on the huge birch tree I used to live across the street from
  • The toads and crickets at night, by the creek down the lane from my house
  • The train going by

Other sounds I love:
  • Master's voice.  Sounds cliche' I know but I really do love his voice (and all his other sounds for that matter)
  • Laughing babies
  • Maria Callas and Montserrat Caballe'
  • Other special pieces of music
  • My Dad's boogie woogie piano playing & (really bad) singing
  • Sevillanas being sung by my family
  • My uncle's fantastic accent
  • My little nieces and nephews happily calling my name when I come visit
