No one ever said such a thing. You just don't understand simple English.

Insults are a very poor substitute for ideas in a discussion whip.

It would be nice to see you post this when those you agree with politically, throw insults.

My comment was a response to his "stupid and irrelevant" towards me, not his position that Muslims=Satan

I never said Muslims = Satan.     Funny, how you don't have a problem with your own insults.

There are after two "sides" in this conflict, and I do think that radical ideologists in *both* sides who seek to demonize the others, to simplify it into a struggle between good and evil, and to widen the conflict and violence are dangerous.  It's bad right now, but if those frothing at the mouth have their way, it can get a *whole lot worse*.

Right, the Nazis had their side and the allies had their side.  Just because there are two sides to every conflict does not mean both sides have right on their side.

CrappyDom -> RE: Big Picture: US Policies Need to Change to Win War On Terror? (8/23/2006 9:33:08 AM)

By saying "nazis" you seperate the bad Germans from the good ones...

So when you say "Muslims" you include both the good and the bad.

l. We can debate this friendship until we are blue in the face, but that doesn't change the fact that they are our friends and that is unlikely to change.

I've got a question that might sound silly and in fact i'm not "smart" enough to know the "ins and outs" of many of your posts guys.

The question is:   Don' t you think that Israel is a friend of America because The USA are always (from what i understand) agreeing with them (israel) on every subject? Do you think that if for some reason US was not agreeing with Israel this friendship will mean something again?

Hope i will not be "burn" for what i ask or because i dont understand fully your thoughts and politics. I 'm sorry if you have problems to understand my sentences, but english is not my mother tongue.

CrappyDom -> RE: Big Picture: US Policies Need to Change to Win War On Terror? (8/23/2006 9:47:54 AM)

ChloƩ,

If it came to a choice between the Arabs and the Israelis, I would choose Israel every time.  That said, I expect "our" side to act with honor and integrity and when I see that standard not being met, I speak out.  Israel has done a great deal to shoot itself in the foot, from building illegal settlements, to bulldozing homes, to this recent disasterous attack on Hezbollah.

I don't support extrememism, I have no problem shooting a terrorist right between the eyes, but I am also smart enough and realistic enough to realize that that man or woman fights for a reason and unless I deal with that reason, I will run out of ammo before they run out of people, or at least I will get sick of the killing.

The people of the middle east are smart enough to realize the west has overthrown every government that was elected by and for their people. The dictators we have put in place were charged with allowing us to steal their wealth at a fraction of its real value.  I just can't blame people for getting pissed about that.  Couple that with the fact that oil is running out and the time has come for some serious changes of both our domestic and foreign policy to deal with these twin realities.

Crappy Dom,

Thank you for the explanations on your point of view as i said I 'm not "smart" enough and don't know sh.t in politics to push the subject  any further but i will following this topics to understand the "facts" better. Thank you All to make me going to bed tonight a  bit less stupid.

"No the correct way to say what I said is the way I said it. Your way  is the wordy and verbose way."
...correct usually means precise. You seem to suggest that a vague statement is more correct than a precise one. This is plainly absurd.
"People with average intellgence would understand what I said."
.....Also clearly not the point.  As has been suggested not everyone here is of 'average' intelligence.
"Reference to any class of people rarely is intended to include each and every member of that class."
.......once again you refer to your answer as being an im precise use of language to convey what you mean. For you to attempt to claim that your position, as stated, is a more correct description of the position than my 'verbose' one is clearly wrong.

You are almost preternaturally calm, regardless of the provocation.  I wish I could be a little more like that. [;)]  I will be patient for a time, but then will lose my cool and get right down into the mud with the agitator. [&:]

No you don't.  "Muslims" does equal "Each and every Muslim."
You have a problem if every time someone talks about a class
of people you think it refere to each and every one.

You seem to suggest  1+ 1 = 79      Correct does not mean the same thing as precise, ever!  Correct means correct, and precise mean precise.
Something can be both correct and imprecise, and incorrect and precise.  Just because an answer is precise does not mean it is correct.
I can't believe I need to teaching 4th grade English.

"No you don't.  "Muslims" does equal "Each and every Muslim." "

.....as a descriptor of a class, it's not wholly inaccurate.

"You have a problem if every time someone talks about a class

........er........can you spell irony?

"I can't believe I need to teaching 4th grade English."

...i can......

Isn't 1+1=79 ... Math? [;)]

philosophy -> RE: Big Picture: US Policies Need to Change to Win War On Terror? (8/24/2006 5:56:40 AM)

"Isn't 1+1=79 ... Math? [;)]"

i would have thought so.....just not very good math, unless we're on some really odd base shit.......and i mean number base as opposed to...well, yanno......1+1=79 is true in base 39.5, and thats just weird.

Whip, i think you and i have a serious difference in opinion about the very nature of a reasonable argument. Personally i find that being precise about what i'm trying to say tends to convey more of what i mean. It doesn't mean you have to agree, but at least you get to disagree with what i actually mean. So, in that spirit can i ask you to be precise in future, instead of throwing around statements that later need the clarification "People with average intellgence would understand what I said"?
As you've pointed out earlier being precise doesn't mean any more correct necessarily, but it would be nice to know what you really think.
