I live in NH, not all that far from Maine...and believe Me...there are MANY strange creatures that lurk out in the woods...most unfortunately, walk up on two legs. lol
After reading these articles...there are a couple things that strike Me.
1. The blue eyes-not uncommon in wolves and other canines. That they "glowed" in the night isn't imitating the pig Jody in the Amityville Horror, nearly ALL animals eyes glow in the dark at night, especially if they are nocturnal. Ever see a dog or cat in your headlights at night? There's a reason they "glow" i.e. reflect back the light, has to do with having better night vision than humans because of how their pupils dialate and then reflect back more of the the light off their retinas.
2. The teeth, indeed they are strange they are fairly worn down and quite white in front. Which would be quite common in an animal who's diet was other animals for 15 yrs. Unlike our pampered pets, who have canned food, and composite dry food. A wild animal exists by eating not only the flesh, but also gnawing on the bones of their prey. The marrow contained in bones is high in fat content, something quite necessary if you are going to survive a Maine winter. The gnawing will wear down both the tartar (thus making them quite white-it's why We humans give our pooches chewy toys and 'bones'), as well as eventually dull the points on teeth from all that use.
3. That there were horrible screams at night is not surprising-this IS Maine remember..hehe just kidding. Seriously, there are some creatures in this area that are positively HORRIFIC to hear at night...several species of owls have a call that is truly the worst thing you could ever hear. People have called the local police to report a murder, because of an owl's screams. A fisher cat (now you want to talk about a wild, scary animal-look that one up) also has a screach that is similar to a woman or child giving a blood curdling scream.
4. That is had a stench..I sense a correlation trying to be drawn here to a Bigfoot sighting. Well, most wild animals do have their own unique odor/scent..its how they tell each other apart, and find mates, etc. A healthy canine living in the wild, won't have much more of a strong scent than the average grubby dog. However, if you look at several of those photos, there appears to be something wrong with it's side..either mange or some sort of an infection. Both of those conditions will cause a terrible stench. Remember, they were indicating that this animal was approximately 15 yrs. That is a significant lifespan for a wild canine in those conditions. Old age will make them more susceptible to both of those conditions.
So really, when it's all said and done-we'll probably never really know what this creature's origin was, because there were no scientific tests done on it's body. For some, speculating that something evil comes this way is both fascinating, and exciting. I say, curl up with one of those Stephen King novels late at night by yourself, and have a good case of the willies. [:D]
