I think it goes something like this... It's the individual, not the person. One doesn't have to be from the hills (or the south) to be a hillbilly... there are northern, flatlanders who are hillbillies too... so it's really not a bad thing, at least that's how the racists justify their politically incorrect terms.
Besides... I prefer the word "redneck".
I'm moving to the SC area soon... so I will have to fight hard to remain of a non- redneck, non-hillbilly status. Fried possum? I think not... maybe I won't have a status problem afterall.

Flatlander are the dreaded, city slickers one finds below lattitude say about 40 deg North.
There common greeting is the one finger salute,
it seems Flatlander affects male species more...
They are found in Business suits as well as blue collar.. so they do at times try to blend in but the LL Bean tag gives them away. ....
They drive New pickups an SuV's have made a ton of money, then go into areas where people still work the land an woods, buy up large tracts of Land an post no Trespassing ,Hunting an Fishing signs
They have stolen, swindled , sued, there bank accounts full,
And come to rural areas and want Pristine , environment, Because they leaving the filth that they made of their Own town , county , state,
They Love what they have found a simple way of life , and go about changing it to make it home, They hire surveyers to post there land, put up fences, hire lawyers to bring their niehbor to court, for a dispute over a few feet of boundary, They Love nature , are friends with all the wildlife , Deer , chipmonk, owl, But go by their fellow human broke down on the side of the road,,,,, err someone else will help them,
i could go on an on my Lovely MistressLorelei, its just that a Northern Hillbilly , or Redneck would really appreciate not being called a Flatlander,
