Lately I've seen n00bish people like myself come into the forums admitting they are n00bs, asking n00bish questions, admitting they are probably n00bish questions but thanking in advance in their request for advice only to have their (often questionable, yes) life choices interrogated and shredded and then get flamed for asking or saying or doing n00bish things.

We were all n00bs once!!  And we certainly ALL make seemingly questionable choices as perceived by the outside world.  Would you rather us ask questions and possibly sound a little naive in the early days, but learn, or be too shy to ask at all?

And this may be a n00bish thing for me to say, but just give us a little consideration and kindness when we're first trying to learn.

ya know, unless they're really being an ass.

Thank you. :)

Last I checked if I put myself in the line of fire I can expect to possibly get shot ;-)

If you're gonna die, die with your boots on.

agree about keeping quiet when you're new & reading/taking in what is being said instead of asking a question that's covered already, maybe many times, by a lot of newbies. No doubt the long timers don't mind, it's just they have prob answered it a lot of times before.

And if it really bothers them so much, they don't have to answer it again. Ask whatever you like, who cares if its been asked a bazillion and one times before, it has never been asked by you before. Those who have been around here a while will either answer you, ignore the question, or will post links to other threads on the same topic, orf they may, for any number of reasons (some to do with your question and how it was framed, and others to do with the type of day the responder is having) flame you.

You pays your money and you takes your chances.

Unfortunately, I've seen where an old thread has been re-opened and that seems create alot of flack as well. I was guilty of it when I first started posting. They responses of typing behind your back, right in front of you LOL
I got the hint fast.
Yes, if this is your first time posting to a forum, you may not know all the the little 'rules' that it entails. I didn't know how to search either. Reading directions, well there are those that have put complicated furniture together and never read the directions, then there are those that read every single detail before beginning. I'm kind of a skimmer on the directions. I admit, I get eager to get involved.
I don't post alot and do a lot of reading (lurking, I guess it's called). I'm also known to be reading here and run off to do other things while I'm still not finished reading something, so I guess that's REALLY considered lurking as I can be on the same page for hours LOL
Yes, thank heavens for LuckyAlbatross, she's WONDERFUL at putting up great links.
And thanks Arpig, I posted here for some time, not alot, but I did post, and you were the first person who ever said a word to me.

As has been noted by others, sometimes the poster is looking for that "flame-ish" response because they enjoy stirring up that sort of thing.

However, what may appear a "shredding" may simply be a strong reaction to the question asked.  If someone sees that the newbie poster appears to be getting in over his/her head, or even into something dangerous,  it can get a very passionate response from people.

Of course that passionate response is different from a "you're an a--hole" reply.  Though I've read posts that struck me as deserving that response, I think I've been successful in suppressing the urge to post it.[:D]  Some people are more spontaneous; I've learned restraint in electronic messaging is a good thing after the occasional "midnight memo" to company executives at work.

As has also been mentioned, it would be nice if newcomers to the board searched the archives first.  However, some people are not as good as others at picking the right key words, and get frustrated in a search, which may lead to repeats of questions.
