"Are You There Alone?" - it's about the Andrea Yates case...absolutely heartbreaking but very well written.

I just read "Sula" by Toni Morrison and am into "the Hours" by Michael Cunningham.

I finished "Sula" on a lakeside holiday with my BF. I was telling him a little bit about the book (it's pretty dark) and he raised an eyebrow and said "This is what you read on vacation?" Once I finished it, I found "The Hours" in a thrift store (score!) and informed him that I was moving on to something less macabre...and then proceeded to read the opening paragraph where Virginia Wolf walks out into the river with a big rock in her coat pocket and drowns herself.

I was at a chain bookstore today (and spent way too much money on books for my unmentionable). The lady who checked us out recommended a book called "The Abortionist's Daughter". She went on for some time about how she feared "nobody would read it because of the title"...she said it was a good read and tried to convince me to buy it. Im going to keep my eyes peeled at the Salvation Army for that one in about six months.

Has anyone had any experiences with the online book-swapping sites? Ive been thinking about joining one. I hate to pay full price for books, but I usually can't finish them by the time the library wants them back.

I dont know about Online Book Exchanges, but I usually go to 2d hand bookstores. I buy a book, read it, and then take it back to the same store, and trade it right back in. Unless its a really good book, then Ill keep it. Im currently on a hunt to get the whole 'Wheel of Time' series in hardback from 2d hand shops.

Running On Empty by Peter G. Peterson. It's about how fucked we're going to be when Social Security and Medicare start going belly up over the next couple of decades , unless we make some changes.
