Shame on you.

Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi is tearfully beautiful. A memoir about books, freedom and it's loss, how art can save you, and how fragile life truly is.

Pick it up folks.

Great stuff

Ever read Lotita? It was one of the most interesting books I've ever read. I thought it started a little on the slow side, but once I got into it, I could not put it down. The narrator's obsession with young girls could have been any addiction.

I've been trying to find a copy of that one for ages. It's all sold out here and gone from the library. Someday!

Also, second the recomendation for Lolita. Good, weird, interesting book.

On the subject of women in the middle east, i would highly recommend "Swallows of Kabul". It is a wonderful book that i do not think i will ever forget reading; it is also the most depressing ***damn thing i have ever read. It does focus on the women of Afghanistan under the taliban, but it also portrays taken from the men, the land, the country and the culture itself, not just by the taliban but by centuries of endless war and violence.

i will have to checking out Reading Lolita in Tehran; and Lolita itself.
