to me doms are not the same as masters. Master to me would mean i am collared to them and I am property. Which I am neither collared nor am Iproperty:)

IMHO, a dom and a Master is really the same thing.  One is more a title than another.

IronBear -> RE: The difference (8/21/2006 11:51:00 PM)

Generally, outside Gor, it tends to be up to the people involved in the dynamic. It is their dynamic and no one else has the bloody right to butt in..

RavenMuse -> RE: The difference (8/22/2006 3:59:29 AM)

Ah, it looks like some people are getting overly focused on the lables and forgetting that those lables are being applied to PEOPLE!

It doesn't matter what the lables are, it is down to how the dynamic develops between person A and person B, regardless of wether person A is a sub or a slave, or wether person B is a Master or a Dom. Those are just lables, the dynamic happens between the people involved.

I was having a discuss with someone about can a Master have  a sub.
Thier thinking was slaves are Masters and subs are for Dominants.
The reason behind their answer(opinion) was the level of submission that a slave show. They tend think that slaves tend submit deeper than a sub therefore they should only submit to Masters (yeah right).
Me I beg to differ. In my opinion a sub can submit just a deep if not deeper as slave.

People take way to much time deciding which label they fit within and not enough time just living.

Dom/Master  Sub/Slave ..who goes with who and how much do they submit.

If you are happy within your relationship.......it works!

I'm not going to argue about the level of submission because that is truly individual. Where the differences may come is the application and consistency of such. Someone that is dealing with their Master/Owner/Dominant on a day to day basis under the same household has a completely different dynamic than someone that lives apart from him and doesn't have the same level of contact. Different doesn't mean better, deeper, etc. It simply means that the additional exposure begets experiences that may not occur or would take place at another time.

I use both terms, submissive and slave. While I can submit I am not a slave to all. For slavery is a state of mind and experience that someone has to bring me towards. It isn't automatic. Futhermore, one cannot enslave him or herself. I feel the same holds true for a Master too. But these are merely my opinions. In my relations both terms - Master and slave, have been titles earned and utilized when both parties had reached a certain place and meshed.

I remember one time at band camp, I had this girl gobbling my skin flute like a christmas turkey......as I was ready to come I asked her; do you identify as a submissive or a slave?......a very interesting philosophical discussion ensued.....I found myself on my back by her retort.......

Its a linguistic issue, not an issue of who submits more.

Master/Slave
Dominant/Submissive
Sadist/Masochist

Those are all the linguistic complements of each other.  Personally I'm tired of hearing Master/Sub used, when its Dominant/Submissive.

I believe this arguement is as old as RavenMuse ..... and we all know that older then dirt ....
there feckin labels .. I have talked to girls who have said I am not a slave I am a sub and disappeared .. i have also talked to girls and told them you claim to be submissive and they responded with "But I want to be your slave" ... it a label is all it is .... I label as Master as someone gave me that label long ago ...

When push comes to shove the label does not matter much.  i have been called a slave, a sub, a daddy's girl, and some horrid names i should not use here.  [8|]  i have used the term Master, Sir, Daddy and a few other names.  All that really mattered was that respect was shown.

Every relationship makes its own rules and uses its own labels.  Some do strikingly well with no label at all.

Imagine that!!  [:)]

Now, where it gets trickier, I do see a difference between a sub and a slave.  In a single word, the difference is surrender.  The slave determines that their trust level is so deep such that they allow all choices and direction to come from the dominant.  If you feel that a sub can exist on this level, then again the terms are more of what make that particular couple comfortable.

Jeff

i'm glad Jeff said this about surrender.  To me  submit is like giving someone the keys to your car.  They are driving, they are in full control of the car.  Surrender is turning over the title to the car.  A submissive submits and the slave surrenders.  IMHO
