behindmirrors -> The art of the striptease...and me. (8/22/2006 2:04:07 PM)

Hello all.
After having discussed with my Dom much which was said on exhibitionism here, as well as my own desires to someday perform a striptease in front of a group of (willing, consenting) people, my Dom is going to create an opportunity for me to do so, and is most pleased by my eagerness in this- in fact, it is my assignment today to work on figuring out what we need in order to do this well.
We have talked to a fellow D/s couple, and I will be doing this with another female submissive as well, perhaps one more if we can get ahold of the couple. We are going to create a very exclusive guestlist of people both of the Doms are comfortable with, thus keeping things out of our work lives, etc., but still adding an element of the "unknown" for her and I, as we will not know all of the people present the two Doms invite.
It sounds like we will be converting the bottom floor of our house into three main spaces- a "general admission" sort of room, a refreshments and lounge sort of area where people can talk, and a "private room" of sorts for individual dances. We will be asking for money for the private dances and donating it to charity in the end.

My questions for you are as follows:
- Has anyone here done something like this? How did you set it up?
- Is there a good resource to get a pole we could set up temporarily at a reasonable cost? (Since this seems like it will be in our living room, we want one we can move, etc.)
- Do you have any suggestions for ways of keeping guests entertained besides dancing for them?
- How does one go about learning to pole dance?
- What sort of recommendations in general would you have for this kind of event?

Thanks for your input, and I look forward to reading your responses.

I have no suggestions it all sounds well planned, and congrats on making a fantasy become reality.  Have a blast and enjoy

I'll just point out that most strip clubs have amateur nights and encourage other people to get up and dance.  I know you aren't necessarily going for an authentic strip tease experience here, but it might be worth it just to invite everyone to the club for the night.

I don't know of any specifically, but I know there are lots of companies that do sell and rent them, do the google thing.

You're a stripper- be a stripper.  There should be alcohol, loud music, low lights and nearly naked chicks.  You can chat with them if you're walking the floor and trying to get private dances, you can touch them a bit and tease them, but otherwise, just get on the stage and work it.

There are videos.  Plus, GO to a strip club and watch, take notes.

Have a blast with the invitations but be specific- make sure everyone knows what will and won't be expected.

The biggest reason I was not really wanting to do it this way was because I am hesitant to see someone I don't want to see there- for example, I know my father frequents some strip clubs in the area (but I don't know exactly which ones, so it would be hard to know where to avoid), and that spells A-W-K-W-A-R-D in really big, shiny letters. I would also be afraid to see a parent or older sibling of one of my students there, etc., and would prefer to keep things limited in who I do this with/for, so that I don't demean myself in my work life, etc.

Thanks for all the info, LuckyAlbatross. I appreciate it, and am searching for poles on Google right now, haha.

Pole dancing has actually become a very popular ... umm...recreational (?) activity and there are individuals and companies out there who will teach women to pole dance. Some of them will even come to your home and do a pole dancing party (women only as far as I know) and they bring portable poles. If you do some investigating I'm sure you can find information on this.

Good to know, thanks. I know Bally's Fitness Center has been running a "cardio-strip" class for some time now, but the membership is expensive, I already belong to one gym, and there's not one near my house. I should look to see if there are other places offering classes around here more geared to what I want to do.

sofaking -> RE: The art of the striptease...and me. (8/22/2006 2:55:10 PM)

personaly, if i were organizing this shindig, i would pick a theme... like Grecco-Roman or whatever.  plenty of grape-feeding and palm-fronding etc, maybe some semi-nude mock gladiator fights between the girls.  i have always found costume parties to be the funnest because everyone is involved in a way.. having guests dressed up might alleviate some of the tension you may feel as well.  oh yea and WINE!  let it flow freely heheh.

just my 98 cents short of a dollar.

If you plan do pole dance in your home, you need a little more than a pole because if you are putting your full weight on the pole and swinging around, it will need to be fixed into position securely. That means fastening it securely to the floor and ceiling joists, assuming they are strong enough. I know with some constructions in some modern houses, the joists are barely more than match wood.

I'm familiar with construction work, and live in a 1930's house- no modern buildings for me. I'm looking for a pole that does not need to be permanantly mounted, though- that would be hard to explain, haha. I found a few poles that either don't need to be mounted that way (a stand-alone stage unit sort of thing or ones that tighten into position), but I've found one I like that doesn't get mounted to the floor and uses a single ceiling hook designed to look like a plant hook when the pole is not there as well.
Thanks for the input.

Custosmorum -> RE: The art of the striptease...and me. (8/22/2006 6:10:58 PM)

They make poles that don't have to be mounted permantly. there is also a pad you can buy to put under it (to protect the flooring) . Sorry don't remember a site name but it is easy enough to google. Amazon has some books and videos, visiting a strip club woud be a good way to learn as well,  just read the reviews on the books/videos some are more porn than educational, and some are about as sexy as my grandma :)

In Southern California they have this popular thing called Spy School. You learn how to fire a gun, self defense, how to disguise yourself with makeup, rock climbing.... and you guessed it... pole dancing, Sinergy told me about it because he thinks I should get into it.. it is extremely popular and it sounds like fun

I'm a former stripper, and have this in my home.  It is worth the money.

MistressTexas -> RE: The art of the striptease...and me. (8/22/2006 10:07:59 PM)

I have had reeeeeeeeeeallly bad experiences with the stand alone poles. my reccomendation would be this: http://jaysilver.net/pictures/cosmo/2/stripperpole.html

This is for another reason as well.. I hate dancing on carpet. agggh. Fair warning, you are NOT, I repeat NOT going do be doing the insane pole flips, back spins and upsidown spins on your first go. I have seen soooo many rookies make that mistake and fall directly on their well proportioned asses. Now... My rookie tips.

1: Know your costumes. Know how to get out of them and not look like a tool. Corellary: do not try getting any piece of clothing off for the first time on stage.
2: Practice in front of a mirror. Know what positions make your body look weird (everyone has em) , and then... you know... dont do them.
3:Get a good pair of heels. If not proper dancer heels, then nice high ones that make your chest stick out and your legs look fabulous. Flatfoot or barefoot is Not a good idea. and it usually looks crappy too. Oh.. practice walking in said heels. it sucks falling on your ass. Get heels with ankle straps...
4: Find music that makes you feel sexy. Music with a good beat. And make sure it suits your style. I know gorgeous girls that look like complete morons when they dance to rock, and sexy stripper goddesses when they dance to techno.
5: Unless you intend to wander around naked in between dances, get a cover up. Could be a sexy teddy, or a baby doll negligee.. whatever. I prefer a kimono.
6: Don't do anything new and crazy with your makeup, dancing is surprisingly strenuous. You Will Sweat. Same goes for hair.
7: Know how long your sets will be, and build your costume around that. EG: A 2 piece bikini doesnt really work for an 18 minute set. Orrrr.... a 6 piece french maid outfit doesn't really work with a 6 minute set. Good rule of thumb is one piece of clothing per song, with 1-2 songs fully naked.
8: DO NOT!!!!!! put lotion on your hands before you dance. Your hands will be slippery and you won't get a good grip on the pole.
9: Breathe. Oxygen is very important.
10: Have fun.

please do let me know how it goes, I think it sounds like a load of fun.

roughleather -> RE: The art of the striptease...and me. (8/22/2006 11:45:46 PM)

Yes, get the pole with the removable ceiling hook.  Avoid the poles that just have friction pads at top and bottom. The rotating poles give you less control.

Pole work takes considerable practice, but you'll get real upper body strength that way.

MistressLorelei -> RE: The art of the striptease...and me. (8/23/2006 12:14:11 AM)

In my area, a Goddess store offers belly dancing and pole/strip dancing classes.  Check out Yoga centers, and new age book stores/gift shops.  Also Carmen Elektra  and a host of others have striptease or pole dancing videos..... have a party with friends and learn together.  Good luck.

That is really, really cool and incredibly helpful. I sent it to my Dom for him to look at as well. Thanks for that!

I kind of figured dancing on carpet would be hard, so I was planning on, regardless of the pole setup, building a portable dance floor- I've done these before for ballet practice, and figured the carpet would be tough to work on because of the sinking in with heels and the drag it can create.
How long do you think it will take to learn the cool tricks, haha? I'm guessing I'll have at least a month of practice time on the pole, just in the time it will take for getting everything set up, etc. I want to be able to do some things, anyway, and hope that my dance background will help. Any tips for easier tricks that still look cool on the pole?

Ahhh yes, costumes. I will probably make a lot of them myself, and will allow for plenty of practice. That was a good tip, to not try onstage first, though. Knowing myself, I would do something like that if I didn't make a conscious effort to avoid it.
I'm familiar with my "weird" positions, and avoid them even as transitions, haha. I have a huge mirror that's portable enough to set up for practice, so I intend on working with that so I know what looks weird on the pole, too.

Good to know with the ankle straps. I want to get a pair of "proper dancer heels", simply because I have been looking for an excuse to buy a pair for years! Otherwise, I have a bunch of high heeled shoes that look good. The ankle strap is a good tip. One question, though- would you recommend a chunky or stiletto-type heel? I'd think a thicker one might be more stable, but if it's easier to dance in a thinner one, I'll go for that.

4: Find music that makes you feel sexy. Music with a good beat. And make sure it suits your style. I know gorgeous girls that look like complete morons when they dance to rock, and sexy stripper goddesses when they dance to techno.

The music, I think, is the best part! I'm already looking. Fortunately, I already know what works for me and what doesn't with this, and I will try everything out first with the whole setup just to be sure.

5: Unless you intend to wander around naked in between dances, get a cover up. Could be a sexy teddy, or a baby doll negligee.. whatever. I prefer a kimono.

I didn't even think of this. I still have a lot to learn, haha. That is good to think about. I'll probably make some sort of kimono-like garment to wear.

quote:

6: Don't do anything new and crazy with your makeup, dancing is surprisingly strenuous. You Will Sweat. Same goes for hair.

I'm used to dancing in full makeup and actually have specific makeup that will not run under that kind of stress. I've performed onstage in ballets and bands before, so I have accquired a good collection of this. Same with hair, though I'm used to that going awry despite my best efforts, haha.

That's something really good you mentioned- again, not really something I thought about before. I will have to think this through pretty carefully, so I don't make an ass of myself, haha.

Thanks for all the good advice, I really appreciate it. I will definetly let you know how things go- and if you don't mind, I might be sending an email or two if you're up for more rookie questions as I go.

I wanna go! That sounds like tons of fun, haha. Too bad I live in Minnesota where they never offer cool stuff like that.
If you go, you have to tell me all about it- I'd love to hear what it's like.
