Any response would be greatly appreciated.  i am very courious if there are any people who felt they had no inclinations to this lifestyle prior to adulthood.  Do you feel your attitude towards D/s are innately inherent or did your surroundings create more of preference for this lifestyle?  Of course, most will say a little of both, but what do you feel is predominately the catalyst for your D/s preferences?  Also, is there anyone who acquired fetishes as a youngster or did you acquire your fetishes strictly as an adult?

I think that I was born submissive, though I do have Top tendencies once in a while.

I remember in my early teens, tying myself up and putting a vibe on my clit.  So, I guess it could be said that I developed part of my fetishes at a young age.  hmm.. Actually if I think about it, I think most of mine were developed at a young age.  I am still discovering them, but if I find one I like, that I need, it can usually be traced back to something I liked or tried at a younger age.

I am having a bit of a struggle with the submissive side of me now, but I think that will smoothen out with time.  I think that more likely the experiences I have had over the last year, have supressed the very natural submissive parts of me.

Not sure if any of that answered your question or not, but.. I think it did.

i studied psychology in school..and we debated the nurture vs. nature issue soooo much..

and there's so much evidence pointing in both directions..so i think that honestly it's a combination of both..

in some people in may be fifty fifty..but i think in most people..it leans to one side of the other..

but i dont think that one or the other influences you alone...i think there's always a combinationg of both

I can think of some very specific events in my life that led me to develop a desire to please others. That desire shows up in academics, career, and sexuality.

My education also led me to a certain level of openess to new ideas that has affected my willingness to try BDSM after the submissive streak developed.

I think who we become is guided by both nature and nurture. From what I have observed, genetics set up our propensities, but our experiences help determine whether we go along with those natural instincts or resist them.

As an example, choose any genetic predisposition -- dominance, submission, heterosexuality, homosexuality, compassion, meekness, bad temper, greed, anything. If a person's environment, friends, family and society while growing up say these things are good or at least acceptable, then the person will likely integrate them into his or her life. If the person's acquaintances and friends and society tell him or her that the disposition is bad, then he or she may struggle against it or even suppress (or deny) it for an entire (possibly miserable) life time.

I can't see how either nature or nurture can be ruled out.

Humbly,

It is a little of both, however the biggest factor is how you process events and that is more of an inherent trait. I have spoken to many people who have had similar events in their childhoods as myself, but because they processed those events diffrently they found themselves pushed further and further toward a submissive mind set. They gave in, went with the flow, submitted to others decisions.

Those similar events in My life, made Me more self-reliant, less aquiesent, more confident in My own abilitys and MORE cynical about trusting others to make decisions on My behalf.

From personal experience I would say I was hard-wired by My nature to be a Dominant personality. But events (Nurture) have built on that and made Me more so.
