I've always taken profile pics against a starkly blank backdrop. I want them to look at me, not my "stuff".

umm..going back to the original question..

personally, when i posted a picture..i felt like the people who were sending me all sorts of random messages never got to the rest of my profile..

they just looked at my face and assume many things about me that im not..things that i had clarified in my profile..

ehh..so i made my profile just super simple..not much of a need to read anything..just gives the basics..*^_^*

i guess im just enjoying the forum here for now..

This was such an issue with me that I posted a similiar one back in March http://www.collarchat.com/fb.asp?m=279181&key=

I can't imagine a person trying to attract another person while wallowing in filth.  If you are a Dominant, it tells me you aren't even in control of your own environment.  If you are a submissive, I immediately assume you aren't interested in a R/L, 24/7, D/s relationship where you need to serve in ways other than in the dungeon.

Now, don't get me wrong....there are people on here that might fit just fine with other slobs.  But, even though I'm not looking, I generally look at the profiles of people I am not familiar with when they first post.  When I can't see the floor because of the trash and dirty laundry and there are dirty glasses piled up by their computer, I'm really disgusted!

I've raised kids and when they were home, my home generally looked like a hurrricane hit at any given time.  But, if I were trying to put my best foot forward in order to attract someone?  If the house were a mess, I get the picture in the yard,  or a head shot against a wall.....whatever!

OK, call me a snob!

Sunshine

I am a keen photographer, I am also someone who notices the 'little things', the details. The background might not put me off, but it would certainly make me a little wary. If the background was massy I would be watching for signs that the person was lazy when it came to the small details. Likely to cut corners and not put in the effort to do things properly.

Your profile is giving a first impression, it is saying something about who you might be.... make sure it is saying good things about you FFS!

i'm one of the few people on the planet who does not own a digital camera so i'm not able to take pictures of myself.  Other people haven't taken many pictures of me either so i don't have a gallery to choose from.  i think my profile pic shows me the way i am, somewhat shy, and doesn't reveal enough to get me in trouble at work.  i've found that if i post a more revealing photo or one that shows body parts the emails i get are "got any more pics?"

Thank you all for the discussion. It has been my experience that if they can't keep their own house clean they lack the discipline I require for my own house. Just because they are now in my service, they will not automatically overcome their lack of personal drive to pick things up. While they might keep the main part of the house clean, when slaves quarters are inspected, they are found in a condition reminiscent of the photo of their old residence. You can't change a dogs spots.

If a profile is to attract and tell others about you, you need to take the time and write a good profile. Yes, many individuals, especially men seem to have a problem reading more than a paragraph in a profile, but others will. If a picture is worth a thousand words and you have 3 pictures in your profile, what have you told someone. If all you put up are kink photos are you telling someone you are only interested in kink? Something to ponder.

They say you can only make a good impression the first time. Since your profile is your first impression, are you making a good one? Again something to ponder.

Thank you all, and yes DameDeviant I love life and I'm thankful for every day I get.

Having a messy background only shows you had your picture taken where there was a messy background.  I got mine taken at work, so some are at someone elses desk.

I think putting some work into a photo said a lot about you. I also like to look in the background of the photo. I also like to see their faces in the photo. I think most women prefer a man to wear clothes in their photos on their profiles. If I was to meet, a dominant woman and she want a photo of me without clothes. She will tell me to send her one.

fast reply,

after reading the responses I have to say that I never consciously looked at whether or not there was a mess in the room. On reflection I have to say there are certain pics that turned me off on other sites. I do not want to see someone else's genital pics. I do not want to see them naked taking a pic in a mirror, especially in the bathroom...smiles.

The men I found attractive usually showed pics of them doing things, like a hobby or on vacation. I am not even that crazy about "portrait" pics.

In my case, at least, even if somenoe did want to take a look at the room around me to see what sort of state it is in, it wouldnt tel you much about me.  Of all my pictures, I think maybe one or two are actualy in MY place.  Ther others are a mix of friends rooms, since they were usually the photographers.
Just a quick thought, when you take into account whats going on in the pic, what are the chances you might be way off base? I mean, someone who has set the pic up specifically to look like they were doing something interesting, or picked a setting that would get more interest than, say a blank wall?
Pictures are easy to stage.  I just look at the person, their face or body, but the rest is just window dressing.

I am totally with Bearlee on having content in your profile -- and as for pics, you can blank out your face if discretion is needed! How does a blank profile without so much as a few words expect any response, lol??!??!!! Or, how about people who demand a pic but don't have one themselves, lol? A big round of applause to all who post a pic! [thunderous ovation and howling crowds]

Pics & background... I am interested first and foremost in the person herself -- the rest can be variable... At the moment my own 1st pic is the one here (in my fav Halloween outfit: Orgasmi Vobiscum!)), the other is casual. I keep meaning to make a creative one, and have some good ones of toys and subs -- but for some reason the stupid Kodak program won't upload here...

Fakes... There are the hilarious scam profiles: some Nigerian/Ghana/wherever with a pic of a super WASP model and the so familiar tale of woe/dead parents/god fearing yada yada -- and then they write 68 lbs, forgetting to write kilos instead, and they are from Chicago, but the state is New York...

Avatars and "model" avatars... I think people should be themselves, not some imaginary creature. Again: you can blank out your face if you need to... As for xhoneyx and others in the same predicament, some guys actually read the whole profile, and it's easy to weed out the ones who don't...

When I posted my pic, I was hoping to show people what I look like, that way they could decide whether or not to contact me.

Ah commonly used over here. FFS... for fucks sake! Maybe a turn of phrase not used over the pond there.

I confess that I often find the backgrounds in profile pics rather funny.  Not just the ones with stray arms round shoulders where someone has been cut out of the picture.  The ones with doms trying to look mean while standing in front of a wardrobe spring to mind.  I'm not sure exactly what design of wardrobe would convincingly say 'I'm in charge' but I do know that I've never seen it yet in a profile pic...on the other hand,  if I'd had advance warning of my dominant's wallpaper I might never have even risked meeting him for coffee.

gentlethistle, yes! The ones of Doms trying to look "mean" are funny as hell!
As if you have to be "mean" to be a Dominant! lol
"GRRRRRRR, see how mean looking I can make myself look?"
