I just wondered how others define a slave, and how they/we fit in the modern day life?

Slave: a person (!) that has no rights.

In this day and age that means someone who has given you those rights. How do we fit into modern day life? The same as everyone else. Not at all - yet we manage.

I define a slave within a consensual relationship as someone who is oriented to be fulfilled in their personal intimate relationships to transfer all ultimate authority within their life to another who takes responsibility for that authority.

It fits in pretty easily for the most part if you want.  The vast majority of Ms relationships you see appear identical to vanilla relationships 80% of the time or more.

Slave: Someone who is held agaisnt his/her will in servitude to another. I think this has no place in modern society and should be fought against as often as it is found.

Consensual slave: someone who has, with full knowledge of what he/she is doing, and with prior negotiation such that the individual in question will not be killed or maimed, chosen to give over the authority and control of his/her life to another individual in all ways and all things. Totally fine in my book because it's doen with informed consent.

Slave: someone who has no ego, who enhances another, who is his second body, who is an extension of the other, who is a male or female incarnation of the Goddess of Love.

The word is also applied to others who are forced to obey or who obey voluntarily, but it is not the same, not organic, but an imitation.

I am in agreement witth LuckyAlbatrosse's definition, I find that Jack Rinella added to that with; "We can philosophize all we want about what "slavery" entails, but in the final analysis, it is defined by day to day living. No matter what you expect from a slave, what you get depends on who is doing the giving."...p.s. which when I reread LA has also said..so I will be quiet now.

all very good definitions.. and i agree with them all..

i think the term slave has a general meaning (likes perverseangelic's a lot).. and a very personal meaning that is dictated within each unique relationship by the parnters involved...

L.A. you come very close to my definition! And I agree about the relationship to vanilla relationships too.
In public no-one could really tell even with a nice slave collar on that looks like a nice piece of jewelry.

I think LA hit it pretty close. The only difference I think I might include on top of that is that they find their happiness in service and in making someone else happy.

Not all slaves find happiness in service however, while many doms DO find happiness in service...and I think 99% of the world finds some happiness in making others happy which makes it very bad to include as a defining factor.

It's just how you relate.

To Me ... a slave is a person who gives of themselves totally and completely in consent to another who becomes their heart, mind, body and soul.  The Master/Mistress is responsible then, for their care and feeding, health, happiness and salvation.

In today's society, while not accepted ... is there in everyone, whether they know it or acknowledge it or not.

I was skimming thorugh this forum
http://www.collarchat.com/m_261891/mpage_1/key_slavery/tm.htm#261891
before I made my reply.
I was being brain dead the other morning when I was switching channels and found a movie that woke me up.

I still contend that a slave is defined by the master.  Period.
If I were looking for a master, I would ask HIS definiton of slave, if he was looking for a slave.
I have a great feel for who I am as a sub, as a slave and as a switch.
It is of my opinion that not all consensual slaves are right for just ANY master.

Now back to the movie that stirred my thoughts.
Modern day slavery IS very different.  Slavery in the 1800's can be stereotypical but not all owners and masters and slaves were typical.
The movie I watched was called A SLAVE'S ODDESSY (1985) and was based on the narrative of Solomon Northrup's written account of his abduction and journey as a slave for 12 yrs.

I went to my PC and found the narrative on line after watching this movie.
http://docsouth.unc.edu/northup/northup.html
Might I suggest all who have a vested interest in learning about one free man's journey into consensual and nonconsensual slavery in the 1800's read the narrative?

It depicts several types of master's as well as relationships between slaves and  master's, the different slave's view of their owners and relationships between slave's.

I have read several profiles on here that want the kind of slavery that means NO rights, just total property, NO will, NO mind, NO soul....but I question that (my opinion).  And I also question a man who wants a woman who is nothing more than an object.  How pathetically boring.  Once again just my opinion of modern day.
