ORIGINAL: velvetears What kind of a handshaker are you? Do you clasp the entire hand and grasp it firmly? Perhaps you just grasp the fingertips of the other with your own fingertips in a weak "i don't want your cooties" kind of shake? Describe your "shake"..... also, what do you think the kind of handshake you recieve tells you about the other person? I am a firm, yet not bone-crushing, handshaker who grasps the entire hand while looking the other person directly in the eye and smiling (usually). That is the kind of handshake I prefer and usually receive in return. Like others here have mentioned, I too have gotten the bone-crushing handshake. Interestingly, I have only gotten the bone-crushing handshake from other females, and this has happened several times. Not sure if it is the overcompensation thing or what. These women seemed intent on projecting an image that they were tough, which carried through in the way they carried themselves and their manner of speech. I can't recall a male ever shaking My hand that way. Now I have also gotten the "wimpy" handshake from both males and females. Some of them seemed to be shy individuals lacking in self-confidence. This is distinguished from the "delicate" handshake, usually from a female who is self-confident and charming, yet is making an effort to project a lady-like image. A type of handshake that I can't stand is the overly familiar one where the person (in every case I can recall, a male) holds My hand for an excessive amount of time and doesn't seem to want to let it go. I have sometimes gotten a sweaty-palmed handshake, almost always from a nervous male. That is probably my least favorite handshake. I always find a way to wash My hands as soon as possible afterwards. Lady Topaz
