Someone who tries to crush my hand is going to get it taken away from them. I despise gorilla games.

Being a Massage therapist, I have Very strong hands,   When I shake hands with a man, I have a firm handshake,  lol....I love the look sometimes followed by the comment of " wow, you have a strong handshake".   I will hold back a bit when meeting and shaking hands with a woman though, Only because I once hurt someone without realizing/meaning to.    And I agree with those that hate the "limp, dead fish" handshake.

I like to give people a firm handshake (but certainly not painful). When I was in colleege, one teacher in a Managment class thought this was so important, he spent almost an entire class making sure we knew how to do that.

I no longer allow handshakes. As a trained and practicing massage therapist, my hands are too strong yet too vulnerable to the crush.Arthritis is a factor too. Even though you cant see it,and I dont have function issues, the pain if squeezed is not nice. So, my comfort, and health and livelihood must come first. Besides, how could I swing a flogger with smushed knucks, lol?Last post I tried didnt appear to go though,so maybe this will.

There are two replies here.

Firstly, I will shake a man's hand with a firm shake. Often I grasp the wrist with the lef hand covering both our hands. (rather a throw back when this was done to enforce that no weapons are in use). With a woman, unless I am asked not to, I automatically take her hand gently and raise the back of it to my lips as I bow over it.In both cases I always give a slight courtly bow when meeting prior to greetibngs and hand shakes etc.

Secondly, I shake hands with the unemployed at 2am regularly, other wise during the day I simply grasp the one eyed trouser snake and point percy at the porcelane and after throttling it I give it a good shake.....

I like, give, and prefer to receive a firm but friendly handshake from both men and women; "friendly" means the inclusion of  some movement, to indicate pleasure at meeting the other party -- if you don't hold the hand in place (even if you are a DOM, lol), it puts the other person at ease.

Like everyone else, I don't like bonecrushers and limp fish! They immediately arouse my suspicions about their character because the former are arrogant (the overcompensation mentioned by others) and the latter are obvioulsy unwilling to communicate at even the most primal instinctive level -- which makes me trust them about as far as I can shit, or less...

The obvious exceptions: musicians, massage therapists, surgeons or anyone who needs their hands for delicate work. Of course, since we are not mind readers, plese do inform us that such is the case!

Good Firm Handshake I can't stand the handfull of pasta some people call a handshake but a business shake always tells someone you are there yet dosen't hurt someone. on the other hand if someone is imature enough to try to crush my hand... I usually wait till they look like they are ready to give up .... then show them what a bonecrushing is from a 6'8" ex highschool wrestler.

Firm handshake..nothing too firm just..normal I think..but am I the only one who is afraid of breaking the persons hand if they give those weak handshakes????? I always end up confused and just try to make the h-shake end as quickly as possible because I just CAN'T figure out what to make of it

honestly....I get kind of nervous when meeeting new people; and when i get nervous, my hands get clammy, so I just give people a friendly hug....I think that you can figure someone out better that way than giving them a handshake

I took marketing/business in high school (10 years ago? I am getting old...lol) and I learned all about the confident, firm handshake and I still do it to this day when the opportunity arises.  Most men are surprised by it because I am short and look like a strong wind could blow me over.  It's a kick!

I am a firm handshaker and I absolutely hate it when I get a wet noodle shake in return from a man or a woman. If I am in a business setting I prefer the nice firm shake back. In casual settings I love the men who surprise me by kissing my hand or giving me a warm and welcoming firm two handed hand hug.

Man to man.. A firm hand shake, eye contact and a natural smile can say a great deal when you meet someone..

What kind of a handshaker are you? Do you clasp the entire hand and grasp it firmly? Perhaps you just grasp the fingertips of the other with your own fingertips in a weak "i don't want your cooties" kind of shake?  Describe your "shake"..... also, what do you think the kind of handshake you recieve tells you about the other person?

I am a firm, yet not bone-crushing, handshaker who grasps the entire hand while looking the other person directly in the eye and smiling (usually).  That is the kind of handshake I prefer and usually receive in return.

Like others here have mentioned, I too have gotten the bone-crushing handshake.  Interestingly, I have only gotten the bone-crushing handshake from other females, and this has happened several times.  Not sure if it is the overcompensation thing or what.  These women seemed intent on projecting an image that they were tough, which carried through in the way they carried themselves and their manner of speech.  I can't recall a male ever shaking My hand that way.

Now I have also gotten the "wimpy" handshake from both males and females.  Some of them seemed to be shy individuals lacking in self-confidence.  This is distinguished from the "delicate" handshake, usually from a female who is self-confident and charming, yet is making an effort to project a lady-like image.

A type of handshake that I can't stand is the overly familiar one where the person (in every case I can recall, a male) holds My hand for an excessive amount of time and doesn't seem to want to let it go.

I have sometimes gotten a sweaty-palmed handshake, almost always from a nervous male.  That is probably my least favorite handshake.  I always find a way to wash My hands as soon as possible afterwards.

I tend to try to be somewhere in the middle.  I don't ever try to play crushing games.  For one, my hands aren't strong enough to (arthritis when young is a bitch).  For another, it seems rather childish.  There is a difference between someone who just doesn't realize their power, and somsone who deliberately tries to squeeze too hard.

I'm very not fond of limp fish handshakes, and I try to make sure are not those.  I do try to use a bit of movement, so that I'm not just standing there holding their hand.  I also try to make eye contact, and smile (and it's rare that it's not a genuine smile - I like meeting a new person, even though as a whole, I don't care for people, if that makes sense).

If it's someone I've met before, or the vibe feels right, I far prefer a hug over a handshake.  Kisses are rare, and generally reserved for someone special.  And only the ones closest to me ever get huggles or the very special Wacky Hug™.

I shake someone’s hand using the Ikbosdoom handshake. Ok I made that handshake up to pretend I’m a member of a secret society. Big shout out to all the Ikbosdoomians, hola etc.
