that would depend on your definition of "cruel". i had military (my dad) and God (mother) so i had the worse of both worlds. Aunt Clara had for years labored under the delusion that I was not only perpetually 4 years old, but also a girl.

my mom was especially creative... we had one of those little special trays that allowed you to make small 4 or 6 small popsicles out of Koolaid and other such drinks... she'd keep one "soapsicle" in there, and if i acted up (usually swearing, lying, or "sass") she would wait until there was company and i had to "enjoy" the treat under penalty of a severe beating
