SteadyOnChaps -> Advice please! (8/28/2006 4:09:18 PM)

Hi,

I signed up here a few weeks ago.. posted a "hi" message, and then vanished (personal stuff came up - what can ya do?)

Anyway, I got an email that somebody had sent me a message here.  I read it, and I am, frankly, concerned.  If this person is for real, then I think that they need help.  I am 90% sure that the person who emailed me was a scammer, looking for a visa or a "Green card", I believe they call it in the USA.

Even so, I'd like some advice from people with a lot more experience than myself in the BDSM scene.  I will not post what they emailed to me here, as it was mostly a direct copy-and-paste from their profile here, and quoting from it would inevitably mean that it would take about 2 minutes with google for anybody to be able to identify them.

I am further concerned that my reply to the email may not have been very good - if they were genuine, and not a scammer.

I am posting this on the "Introduce yourself" section deliberately.  The people who bother to check these messages will   either be complete newbies (like myself) or people with experience who actually give a damn.  I seek the latter for advice, rather than the newbies.

If anybody is willing to take some time to help me out here, and tell me what they think, please post a followup, or better yet, send me an email (I get notified of emails to this profile, and personal circumstances may not allow me to check this board very often).

Many thanks,

J.

There are plenty of scams on here as with most online worlds.  Dont let it bother you just continue to weed out the replies you dont feel are real

Welcome to the boards.

If you think it's a scam, don't even bother to reply to it.  It was offensive enough to raise that radar alert, no?  Delete it and block the sender.

Thanks for all the advice - and it is good advice.  I've been around enough to recognize a 419 scam, but if anything I reckon it was building up to be an "I need a visa" thing.  But the email seemed to indicate that the woman could have been a victim of abuse.  But then again, it could have just been poorly worded.

Anyway, I simply told her to think about what she had said - which was the kind of thing I reckon even a lifestyler would shy away from except in fantasy.

Regardless, I consider the matter closed now, but thanks for the friendly support - much appreciated :)

Hang in there Steady.  You will find there are scams on top of scams in these types of forums.  However, there are a multitude of really great people on the forum here.  Take a little time, jump in on some threads, and you will see what I mean.  Welcome to the forum and I hope you enjoy.
