pahunkboy: the players on wall street make their money of of people that dont know what they are doing. people that loose on wall street arent going to tell you. it is a casino thing- it takes from the general fund. one issue is the fees that wall street will make. You'd rather just give all your money to the government and allow them to change the program and eligibility without your permission? Is profit such a bad word for you? Self determination of your SS investment is NOT the same as investing in 'penny' stocks. Mutual Funds are a "risky" investment, but in total none have ever been worthless; unlike SS which is in effect bankrupt. Every penny you ever put into SS is gone. There is no fund set up in your name that you can get a statement to see how much money you put in and how much money you've made on your "investment". In fact if there was such a report the earning on your investment would be reported as $0.00. You won't accept the possibility of this occurring with a Mutual Fund investment company, but you blindly accept it, support it, want it to continue, and don't question it regarding the government? Who really doesn't "know what they are doing"? Re: What to do... I'm following my plan of voting against anyone currently in office regardless of political affiliation. I'm taking the position that in reality voters have only one vote; a Yes/No resolution type decision regarding the course of government. I have never felt so compelled to vote NO! To that end, I have written, spoken to when opportunity arises, and contributed to every candidate not an incumbent. I am very plain in all manners of communication. I tell them I am voting against the current condition of the US. Once closer to November I will actively campaign and help in the campaign of any candidate seeking to unseat an incumbent. I'm hoping that somehow my position becomes a grass roots movement. Of course access is easier at the local level. I doubt the letters I sent, to President Bush, my Congressmen and especially to the CA Senators, are even read. But you'd be surprised how even a $20 contribution to a any candidate gets an individual response. Edited to add response to pahunkboy
