ORIGINAL: arissa Firstly, I am a Collector, albeit for commercial accounts, I do NOT make bottom of the barrel wages, and I never call anyone from my cell or home phone, that’s a waste of MY time and my minutes. I have friends who are consumer collectors, and trust me when I say they do NOT make shit wages, collectors are indeed highly paid people, reason for that, is they have to take BS abuse form people who refuse to pay the bills they owe. Now, perhaps the reasons you give are valid, to you, but did you read your contract when you bought the car, did it have a repo clause in it? Did it state that if it is reposed you would not have to pay? I bet it didn't. NO car dealership would put that sort of clause in a contract If the car was sold to a third party for less then what was owed, then you are legally responsible to the remainder of the debt. When they call you back, which is their job, open a dialogue with them, ask to have a copy of the original contract, ask if the car was sold to a third party and then ask for that information, ask what is owed and see if you can’t work out some sort of deal. Collectors are not harassing you for the fun of it, they would not be calling if the debt was not valid, and yes, it can so ruin your credit, whether you have a new car or not, it can impact even the smallest of things, an R9 rating on your credit is not a joke. Try buying something with that sort of rating, and no, it does not just disappear after seven years, it IS still there. Give collectors a break, they are just trying to do a job, just like everyone else, and they are NOT bottom feeders like you think, nor jerks. Given the chance ALL collectors are willing to work with you, as well as provide you all the information you need and/or want. For the most part I'll agree with this post. But having been awaken before 7am mon - sat ever single day for 13 months.. I just made game out of it... when they called... I thanked them for the wake up call and hung up... it got to point they where calling 3-4 times a day. Now this was for a student loan I had back in 85. And over past year and half they've decided it was time to let me know where loan is. Back in 87 my loan was sold to a differnt bank and I lost track of it. And being a cross country trucker at the time... I simply tossed it out my mind. I've always been easy to find.. never hid from them. They would even call my moms house looking for me and she gave them my addy and phone number.. I agree they have a tough job... but I also agree that though to a point it's a legal way to hassle someone... alot of them do go way to fucking far.
